The photo caught my eye and brought back memories of my father telling me about this type of sandwich when he was growing up during The Great Depression near Steubenville, OH.

Everything old is new again. As for the sangwich I don't think I'd make it a habit but filled with pasta, red sauce, meatballs, cheese, and sausage? Hell yeah I'd hit it!

Reminds me of the "smashburgers" we had in France. The entire meal was crammed into the sandwich and flat pressed.

I'm pretty sure my brother ate there on more than one occasion when he was stationed in the area.

Who hasn’t put spaghetti on their garlic bread?

The old-world Italians do certain things a little more correctly, like: sitting down to a meal served on a plate, for a couple of hours, and not leaving until a bottle of wine (or two) is finished. I think we should strive to emulate that sometimes.

Another good one is made with an Italian bread dough, pizza dough, or any hard roll dough.

Cut off a 4-5 oz piece, pin it out to about 5"-6" round, about 3/8" thick, place cooked Italian, or your favorite sausage, some sliced bell pepper, julienned onion briefly sautéed,  add 3 oz of spiced marinara and top with a bit of freshly grated parmesan.

Bring the edges up to roll, crimp the seams, turn it over and place on a pan with some semolina or cornmeal sprinkled on it.

Let rest for about 20 minutes then bake in a moderate ( 350-375) oven.

They have awesome food there.  We go at least once every time in the area.  My wife gets the White Pizza with garlic shrimp.  Awesome salads and pastas.

They used to have New York Yankee logos to piss on in the urinals.
