But muh countless, flawless rounds!

Spoiler: it's pretty crappy

That's weird, mine has worked fine for 2 decades or so with factory or the RedBall mags.
Maybe the new production ones are not so great.

Mine had a lot of feeding problems until I sent it back to the factory.  They polished the feed ramp and reamed the chamber a bit deeper.  It runs fine now.

OP spelled USFA Zip Gun wrong.

It’s not just the magazines, although there certainly were feeding issues. The gun had numerous failures to fire and failures to extract, as well.

The front sight was not particularly attached to rest of the gun, the zero wandered with both the irons and optic sight, and the pic rail on the forearm broke off.

Edit to add:

“I’m not holding this thing up to my face”

“It doesn’t deserve an Aimpoint”

That was more a test of the shitty 20 round bent-dick magazines. Never had a problem with10 rounders myself.
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 7:50:26 PM EDT
That review will leave a mark.

My 10mm version seems to work pretty well so far. I only use the factory 10rd mags. It is just a toy for me anyway.

My carbine is close to twenty years old and at close range is an accurate and deadly machine. It certainly has it's limitations though. The laser keeps them right on firing from the waist or not using the sights. I paid like a hundred and something for it brand new. It likes the heavier grain bullets.
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 7:53:34 PM EDT
I bought one of the first gen carbines for $90 with a Bushnell scope included. That thing has chewed threw a lot of ammo without ever even being cleaned.

I'm pretty sure GT's gun broke the firing pin.

I've learned that "flawless for countless rounds" generally means a couple hundred rounds. Why people can't keep track of that, I don't know:

Did I make it before the one guy who is obsessed with trashing GT and trying to air dirty laundry?

Doesn’t surprise me.

He could have sent it back and got it fixed but very little QC is part of the cost cutting that makes their prices possible.

People have always spoken highly about them in my xp. Did he use something other than those weird mags?

I've owned two, the 9 and 40

Never a hiccup.

I'll have to watch later.

A friend had one 15-years-ago. We used to dump box after box of the $7 Walmart bulk WWB through it without issue. Of course, we only used the 10-round mags and were only plinking junk at less than 25yds.

I do recall being slightly pinched by something on the carbine while shooting but don't remember if it was the trigger, the stock, or both.
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:06:17 PM EDT
Had one for a few years - it went bang every time.
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:07:05 PM EDT
Mine shoots about 2" groups at 100yrs with 9mm 115fmj. Never had a hickup and I've never cleaned it. Disassembly looks like a PITA, So I just hose it out CLP with the bolt open and let it drain out. The only major complaint I have is the recoil reverberates back into the trigger and sensation on my trigger finger is awful.

As soon as I saw that video posted I knew the butthurt was going to flow here.

Anyway...

Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:10:33 PM EDT
Between me and my buddy we have 4 of them 9mm, .40, .45 and 10mm. We have never had a failure.
My .40 is also very accurate at 50 yards and in. You really have to hold over to hit 12" steel at 300 yards. A lot.

I had a family member, who owns old school Sigs and S&Ws, give me his HiPoint pistol to fix because he had “lost a part or two” but wasn’t sure what it was. It was the firing pin, spring and FP stop.

I called HiPoint and I had the parts within days for no cost. Big pro for HiPoint there.

I fixed it up and took it to the range. It was ugly and rough. Awkward in the hand. It fired everything I fed it and I had zero issues getting better than decent accuracy. So, it works. Another big pro.

I’d never buy one but admittedly was surprised by the pistol. Much much better than the old Jennings, Bryco and Lorcins I remember from the 90s.

I used to enjoy his videos when he'd just have straightforward talks about gear setup and reviews.

Seems like his YouTube persona is taking over. Happens to a lot of channels, everything becomes about the branding and money.

Light or no strikes and stovepipes/FTEject aren't mag related.

The firing pin also acts as the ejector on the HP carbines. I'd bet the firing pin is broken, as that would explain both problems.

The whole gun practically fell apart.  Firing pin and bolt was the most noticeable.  Then the front sight turning every which way was pretty telling as well.  HiPoint is probably kicking themselves for not QA’ing that gun before sending it to him.

Worked IRL:

Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:18:39 PM EDT
My friends dad has one in 40 and it's been nothing but reliable.

Its actually kind of a fun gun to shoot, just wish it didn't have so many parts to deal with when cleaning
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:21:53 PM EDT
I had the OG one in 9mm.

I had one bent firing pin, that they replaced for free.

The thing was a riot to shoot.

It's easy to bend too, if you insert a mag with the bolt open, there's a chance you're going to fuck it up.

Say what you want. The gun he got was shit. Everything on it broke. He gave great to highpoint that they are great guys and at least the pistols they sent before worked. This is why you have to test your firearms before trusting them, and most people in this country doesn't. They just purchase and put away.

My personal experience as well.  Gave the 9mm to one of my boys, and .40 to another.  Still running great.

By the way, here's another YouTube review of the 10mm Carbine.

He had to have done something to make sure the gun fucked up for his video. I've got a .40 pistol, had a .45 carbine. A friend has two 9MM and one .40 carbine. His dad has a carbine in each caliber.

I haven't seen as many malfunctions, total, from all of those as I saw in the first 9 minutes of that video.

ETA-as for the magazines, don't they have a warning in the box about issues with aftermarket mags, and if they find out you used them your warranty is voided? I know my .45 did.

A - I doubt the mags made the front sight post break.

2 - Hi Point supplied the mags to him.

iii - if using aftermarket mags voids the warranty that says something in and of itself.

Hush guys, clearly he used the wrong mags even though he said directly in the video Hi point provided them but clearly it was up to him to disbelieve hi point and get magazines that weren't sent with the gun. Then of course if anything messed up it would clearly be GT's fault.

Watching now.
Link Posted: 7/20/2021 8:54:12 PM EDT
For those that don't want to watch:

- Failed to extract.
- Failed to fire.
- Font sight broke and swivels around barrel.
- Picatinny rail on bottom broke.
- If you put too much pressure on the top with your thumb, it will flex the top rail.
- Bolt occasionally got stuck in rear.

Doubting the mags were the problem.
