Depends on you comfort level of janky. At around that same time I had childhood friends from the east coast that moved to Venice Beach. They had an apartment 1 block back from the boardwalk. I used to drive up there and crash at their place on 3 day weekends. It was never 100% safe but no better/worse then a place like NYC. There was a lot of fun to be had if you had street smarts and kept your wits about you. It did not look like a cross between Road Warrior and a homeless camp like it does now. |
