Post your list here. Seems to be more every day, and I'm new to this (2 months).
ETA by Keith. Keep the terms and such coming. I'll add them to this list as needed. Derived from http://www.ecigology.com/e-cig-glossary/. Edited for relevance. Many thanks to WrenchBender for the lion's share of this list. 100% PG - Just don't do it.......ever..... 510 – The most common and popular style of electronic cigarettes available. If it's not 510 threaded, consider it obsolete Analog – Slang term for a traditional cigarette. Atomizer (Abbreviated as Atty) - The part of an e-cigarette that actually heats the juice to the point of vaporization. Automatic – A style of electronic cigarette battery that does not have a button to activate the heating element. Rather, when the user draws on the device a switch is activated and the atomizer is activated. This style of e-cig is most like smoking a traditional cigarette. Burnt Hit - Similar to a dry hit, but tastes like carbon, or an unpleasant burnt flavor. Juice could be near empty, wick could be clogged/need replacement, or wattage is wrong for coil/wick combination. Cartomizer (Abbreviated as Carto) – A cartridge and atomizer in a single unit. These generally are disposable and inexpensive Clearomizer - Some guy's idea that a Carto with a clear tank required a different name Deck - The flat base area where the positive and negative posts sit on an RBA/RDA, which is designed to keep e-juice off of the battery connection. Some have a small raised lip on the outside edge to prevent e-juice from running down off of the deck. DIY - Do it yourself. Used almost exclusively when talking about mixing and blending e-liquid by yourself for your own personnel use. Drip Tip – An accessory that can be used in conjunction with an atomizer. These have a larger opening and allows a user to drip Juice directly onto the atomizer. Some people use a drip tip on their Cartomizers simply for looks and/or comfort. Dripping – A method of adding juice to the atomizer. A user will drip a few drop directly onto the coil/wick before vaping. Dry Burn - Technique uses to clean the coil prior to rewicking. Accomplished by firing the coil temporarily with no wick installed. Should glow red hot and burn off excess "gunk" Dry hit - A term used to describe a hit where little to no vape is produced. Usually a result of poor wicking or inadequate flow to the coil. A dry hit will usually taste burnt due to the coil burning the dry wicking material E-Cig – Abbreviation for Electronic Cigarette. E-Juice – Also referred to as E-Liquid, Juice, or Smoke Juice. This is the liquid that is vaporized when using an electronic cigarette. E-Liquid – Also referred to as E-Juice, Juice, or Smoke Juice. This is the liquid that is vaporized when using an electronic cigarette. ECF - Abbreviation for E-Cigarette-Forum. Ekowool - Braided Silica Wick, usually hollow, available in diameters from 1mm to 3mm typically, but can be larger. Wicks/holds more e-juice than silica rope, and easier to work with, but is more expensive than silica rope. Cotton is frequently used instead of this synthetic wick. eGo - A style of electronic cigarette that utilizes the 510 threads and allows one to use 510 components but with a much larger battery. FDV - FatDaddyVapes.com - a supplier of mod enhancements. Flooding - A term used to describe an overly wet hit typically resulting in raw juice on the lips and/or tongue. This is a result of inadequate vaporizing of the liquid by the coil. Usually accompanied by a gurgling sound. Gurgling - See Flooding, sounds like sucking the last bit of soda through a straw. Usually found in combination with a Wet Hit . Kanthal, Kanthal A1 - Kanthal is a specific brand of resistance wire that is used in building coils for electronic cigarettes, usually sold for Rebuildables. Kanthal A1 is a specific grade of Kanthal wire which is considered by many to be the best wire for use in coils. M3 Coil - A coil made by following the threads on an M3 bolt (3mm metric machine screw), then unscrewing coil from form. Easy way to make great coils quickly. Can be done with 4-40 imperial, or other threaded rod as well. Mech Mod - Short for Mechanical Mod. This is an unregulated device and should only be considered once the individual has expereince and done their research. Typically used for Sub-Ohm builds since there is no safety devices to limit amp draw. mg - Milligrams (Abbreviated as mg) – The amount of nicotine found in a Juice, in mg/mL. Typical levels include 0mg, 6mg, 8mg, 12mg, 16mg, 18mg, 24mg, 30mg, 36mg and 48mg. Generally speaking, a medium level of nicotine is around 18mg. Those who use Juice with a higher nicotine content than that are generally people who were heavy smokers or have been vaping for quite some time. Micro coil - A type of wire coil where the coil is wrapped so that the loops of the coil are all touching, requiring more wraps than a traditional coil. ml/mL - Milliliters (Abbreviated as mL) – The amount of Juice in a given container. Mod – A) Generic term for a vaporizer. B) Method Of Delivery. Mouse - Screen name "lcoates33". Considered by most as the resident bad influence on everyone (and the guy knows a little bit about vaping science too ) NicSick - Term used to describe the nausea and dizziness associated with prolonged vaping or too high a mg of E-Juice Ohm - A measure of electrical resistance. A lower number indicates lower resistance and therefore faster heating. Over Wicked - Coil Wick is too long or absorbant, pushing too much juice into the coil. This causes wet hits/gurgling. Solved by Replacing with less wick material in a rebuildable or DIY coil, or a new coil unit if it's a Kanger, etc. The other option is increasing wattage, though you increase the risk of a Burnt hit. Passthrough – A device that plugs directly into the USB port of a computer or charger and allows the user to vape without having to worry about battery life. Some users report better vapor production and/or flavor while using a Passthrough compared to their regular batteries. Priming - In some Tank atomizers, after replacing the coil/wick, you need to cover the air holes and take a hit without power. This will cause the juice to flow into the wicking. PG - Propylene Glycol (Abbreviated as PG) – An ingredient found in many brands of E-Juice. Some users have reported an allergic reaction to it and must therefore use 100% VG Juice instead. This is one of the ingredients used that when heated will produce vapor that can be inhaled. Typically, PG produces less vapor than it’s VG counterpart but provides more flavor and Throat Hit. This substance has been used as a primary ingredient in medical inhalers for years. RBA - ReBuildable Atomizer - Describes any atomizer designed for the user to build custom coils for use. Does not accept prebuilt factory replacements RDA - Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - Specific type of RBA that requires the user to manually drip E-Juice onto the wicking material/coil prior to each use. This style atomizer does not contain a tank. RTA - Rebuildable Tanked Atomizer - Specific type of RBA that utilizes a reservoir (or tank) to hold large quantities of E-Juice and continuously feeds the wicking material automatically. Unlike an RDA, an RTA does not require the user to manually wet the wicking material. Silica / Silica Rope - Twisted Silica used for wicks, same material as Ekowool above, but not braided. Cheaper than Ekowool and almost the same performance. Cotton is frequently used instead of this synthetic wick. Squonk - Technique used to re-wet the wicks on a bottom feed atomizer. Makes a sound that can only be described as "squonk". TC- Temperature Control. Some mods have TC which requires certain wire in order to be used. Basically it will throttle back voltage so you don't get a dry hit. TFA - The Flavor Apprentice, shop that sells flavors for diy juice. Torch- As a noun, a butane torch that puts out a hot blue flame. As a Verb, applying the blue flame to Kanthal or Silica wick. Under Wicked - Coil Wick is too short/not getting enough juice. This causes Dry Hits and Burnt Hits. Solved by priming, cleaning or replacing wick, using more wick material than previously used, or decreasing wattage. VG -Vegetable Glycerol or Vegetable Glycerin (Abbreviated as VG) – An ingredient found in many brands of E-Juice. This is one of the ingredients used that when heated will produce vapor that can be inhaled. Typically, VG produces more vapor than it’s PG counterpart but provides less flavor and Throat Hit. Some users who are allergic to Propylene Glycol must use 100% VG Juices. VV / VW Mod - Short for Variable Voltage / Variable Watts - Any vaporizer (mod) that contains electronics that allow you to manipulate the Voltage or Watts to meet battery strength, coil resistance or desired vape Wet Hit - A hit where non-evaporated e-juice accompanies the vapor and ends up in mouth. Excellent method for rapid nicotine intake, but a bit strong on the taste. A sign of Flooding Wick – A narrow piece of poly string that is inside of many styles of atomizers that allows easier delivery of Juice to the heating element. Easy to use Calculator for finding setting on VV for desired wattage, or for resistance when making your own coils. Android - Vaper's Toolbox Helps design coils for exact resistances, calculates materials needed, and much more! |

I'll make this a sticky but the list needs to be revised. A bunch of the most common terms aren't even listed while a lot of older ones which we don't use are on there. For instance, RBA, RDA, Mech, etc. aren't on the list. If anyone wants to make a more up to date list I'll be more than happy to sticky it up.
|
Due to the rising cost of ammunition, I will no longer be able to provide a warning shot. Thank you for understanding.

RTA. Rebuildable Tanked Atomizer. Ex. Kayfuns
Squonk. What someone with a bottom feed device does to re-wet the wicks. It kinda makes a funny sound. Dry burn. Heating your bare coil until it glows in between wick changes to burn off the crud. |

I really don't know much about them, but can somebody give examples of drip atomizers (brands that are commonly referenced), batteries (that's what I call em, seems mods is the right term?), etc?
I'd like a list so a newbie could read this thread, then read most other threads here without wondering WTF all the lingo is. The reason for this is that when I got into vaping, I looked in this forum, and said to myself "WTF are they talking about?" and never came back until now. |

Some popular dripping atomizers are: Nimbus, Omega, Trident, 3D.....and the list goes on and on. Your best bet is to go to ebay and search RDA. You will come up with numerous hits of all styles and types.
As far as batteries go, some are integral to the unit while others are meant to be removed and charged. Don't be shy to ask questions if you don't know. I actually have a thread where I felt dumb asking stuff. This isn't GD and we may poke each other in the ribs but you will get an intelligent answer to your questions. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_175/1628426_Stupid_questions_you_have_been_afraid_to_ask_____until_now.html |

It is spoken of frequently here. I feel like somebody new to AR's posting a question in GD. Is the iTazte MVP 2 a mod? It is a LiPo VW/VV power source, I'm unsure of the generic terms for A) non-cigarette shaped power sources and B) Cigarette shaped power sources. |

Kayfun is an atomizer with a tank. Holds fluid and wets the wick automatically so long as there is juice in there. See RTA.
IMHO, if you are going to get into vaping, do not waste your time on the cigarette shaped e-cigs, you probably won't find the level of satisfaction to keep you off analogs. The MVP is a box mod (meaning it is shaped like a box, not a cylinder) and is one of the more popular units out there. They are simple in design and accept any 510 threaded tank like a Kayfun. Protank is another popular tank/atomizer combo. The protanks accept prebuilt coils you can replace for a couple bucks a piece and last a decent amount of time. You can find a review of almost any popular mod on youtube where they will explain how they work and give their opinion on them. This will give you an idea of each unit's ups and downs prior to making your decision. |

I already have 2 MVP iTazte VV/VW, 2 Kanger ProTank 2 w/Variable air ring, 1 Nautilus Aspire, and a Kanger Aerotech dual coil. For sticks: 1 eGo VV stick type w/ProTank 2 mini on it, and another longer Smok VV power source with the cheap Kanger tank on it (EVOD?)
I think I'm set for a while, Have some problems with homemade coils (rebuilding the kangerTech ones), I have 28, 30, and 34 gauge Kanthal wire, silica wick as well as cotton wick, and making the mini coils (all in one little bunch), they don't seem to perform as well as the new ones do. --ETA: Started Vaping at very end of April, quit smoking Marlboros in mid-may except for maybe a pack every two weeks now, after eating is a hard one to give up, used to smoke 2½ packs a day. I use 18mg/mL e-liquid from nicoticket.com, Betelguese for a fruity flavored break, and The Virus for All Day, pretty much since I started. Haven't explored other dealers or flavors. |

I run the Wattage around 7 now, used to be 9-10W, but would always taste burnt at the end of a long pull. I find it easier to just hit the button a half second early at a lower power for a thick, flavorful vape. Juice is 50/50 PG/VG. Allegedly I can get the same thing instantly making my own coils (The MVP will power down to 0.8 Ohm), but they end up tasting burnt, even at 8 watts (hence the "problems" with winding my own). |

One of your issues with the burnt taste is your tanks.
You will find that a micro coil functions better in a high end tank such as a kayfun. Getting the wick to stay saturated with enough juice to vaporize is quite a challenge with most tanks that are designed as replaceable coils as opposed to rebuildable coils. Basically, it's a lack of juice flow issue. Drippers (RDA's) rarely have this issue.. as long as you keep an eye on your cotton. |

Found these on the net and should be added.
Micro coil - A type of wire coil where the coil is wrapped so that the loops of the coil are all touching, requiring more wraps than a traditional coil. Throat Hit - The sensation on the back of the throat akin to what is felt when smoking a traditional cigarette. Deck - The flat base area where the positive and negative posts sit on an RBA/RDA, which is designed to keep e-juice off of the battery connection. Some have a small raised lip on the outside edge to prevent e-juice from running down off of the deck. |

Adding a couple I've heard in videos:
Under Wicked - Coil Wick is too short/not getting enough juice. This causes Dry Hits. Solved by cleaning or replacing wick, using more material than previously used, or decreasing wattage. Over Wicked - Coil Wick is too long or absorbant, pushing too much juice into the coil. This causes wet hits/gurgling. Solved by Replacing with more material in a rebuildable, or a new coil unit if it's a Kanger, etc. The other option is increasing wattage, though you increase the risk of a Burnt hit. |

To Mouse, et al:
If you have solutions that are 2 sentences or less to items/terms in the list for correction, please post them and I'll add them to make this more of a one stop learning spot. Or would that be a separate thread? I sort of started it with the latest entries (Burnt Hit, Gurgling, Wet Hit, Dry Hit) after absorbing many hours of YouTube vids and the common reasons given. Example: Wet hit in can be solved by removing the drip tip, inverting the atomizer, then blowing into the air intake hole with the power off, or using canned air at low pressure for similar result. Be sure to have a paper towel below the tank to catch the extra fluid expelled from the wick (See Over-Wicked). This works with KayFun and similar atomizers, other atomizers are untested. |

If you're still taking suggestions:
WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloids) - WTA is a recent development in vaping in that it goes beyond nicotine juice - which has only nicotine as its primary agent - and provides a full complex of tobacco alkaloids in addition to nicotine, which combined are hypothesized to have a synergy of effects similar to what analogs deliver. What is known is that a significant portion of those who try and/or switch to vaping never experience that "calming" or "relaxing" feeling analogs do. For many of them in this group, WTA best mirror the analog experience. |

TC = Temperature Control. This is a (relatively?) new technology for regulating the power supplied to the coil based on the temperature of the coil. Requires Ni200 or titanium wire for the coil.
Please correct me if any of the above is erroneous. I'm brand spanking new at vaping. |
