A Ukrainian sniper has set a new world record by striking an enemy soldier from a distance of approximately 2.36 miles, according to Defence Blog. The record-breaking shot was fired with the Horizon's Lord rifle, the capabilities of which will be detailed below. The previous record stood at around 2.20 miles, as noted in a post by user @albanfella1 on an unspecified platform. A video was released on this platform showcasing the record-breaking shot in Ukraine. The video depicts three Russian military personnel, one of whom is struck by the shot fired from the Horizon's Lord rifle, after several seconds of bullet flight. A Weapon that provides an edge against opponents "This rifle and its ammunition represents a unique national project. In many regards, it holds advantages over existing sniper rifles of this type," stated Yuri Shramko, deputy of Ukrspetsexport, the company responsible for the rifle project, in 2022. The Horizon's Lord rifle was developed in response to the requirement for a long-range weapon capable of firing bullets with flat trajectories. Resultantly, the manufacturer created not only a new rifle, but also developed new .50 caliber cartridges (12.7 x 114HL) by modifying a 14.5 x 114mm shell. According to The Firearm Blog, using 12.7 x 114HL bullets offers numerous benefits compared to the traditional 14.5 x 114mm cartridge. Thanks to these modifications, the manufacturer established the desired attribute of flat trajectories, in addition to enhanced range, the ability to maintain energy during flight, and decreased vulnerability to wind. The muzzle velocity after a shot is fired is 3,280 feet per second. The record-breaking Horizon's Lord rifle is a single-shot sniper weapon that is capable of firing up to eight rounds per minute. As announced by the manufacturer, the rifle weighs approximately 34.17 lbs, the barrel length is 41.34 inches, and with the stock extended, the overall length of the weapon is 71.65 inches. When the stock is folded, the rifle's length drops to 59.84 inches. **** There is a video of the kill at the link *** |

About 8 seconds of flight time in that video so it's close to that distance
I've done so much with so little for so long, I can do anything with nothing.

Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot

ZERO wind, the earth stopped rotating, he was not breathing, had no heartbeat, the target was wearing blaze orange, standing perfectly still.......
The sun/moon weren't out, no humidity....let's see. What have I missed? |

That shot's worth at least 5b America tax payer dollars.

If the bullet can travel that far it is possible, not repeatable, but possible, just lob it at a distant target and hope it connects,

I read OP's post first including the description of the rifle and was like "Oooh that sounds pretty neat, let's click the link and see what this bad boy looks like."
I was somehow both impressed and disappointed at the same time. I was kinda hoping it would be....more?.....than a pipe with a scope on top. Then again it's pretty impressive that they're firing basically 14.5x114mm rounds out of a....pipe with a scope on top. |
Looks like the guys lobbed a round at a group of Russians, and got lucky. You guys think the video is fake?
LOL In the vid you can barely make out the individuals, they duck, then move. How do we know they actually hit or killed one?
Well based on the video, shot was centered on one guy, and allegedly hit the guy on the right...but the guy gets up right as the video cuts off.
Doubt. |
All it looks like is dudes ducked. Nothing more. Without a confrimed kill, means nothing.

Meh. If it is not puff piece propaganda and it actually happened.
All shooting is just a statistical problem to be solved. All the dude needed was to get lucky while knowing rough ball park ballistics. Unlikely the dude could make the same shot again with fewer than 30-50 rounds under the same exact conditions but lobbing rounds out there for a Bingo still probably carries decent odds of a hit. |

12,000+ foot shot? What’s the bullet drop compensation? 86 feet?

The 12.7×114 "HL" cartridge is based on a .510" (12.95 mm) bullet in a 14.5×114 mm cartridge case.
Effective range 2500 metres, maximum range 3200 metres. Lob shot? ![]() |
