Great news.  I misplaced the letter before opening, so now I'm wondering what the disbursement amounts too.  I logged on at USAA, but I can't find that information on their website.  I will just consider it a surprise Christmas present.

358 and change.

As a long term member, I still think they spend too much $ on advertising.

It's based on the total amount of the insurance you've paid during the year. A big dividend is not necessarily a good thing, it means you had a big insurance bill.

Check your auto bill. There's an option to have it applied there as well.

Click the envelope up top.

On the right hand side next to your messages should be Profile and Preferences under "quick links"

Then click here

So if I've never changed my dividend preference, I should be getting a paper check in the mail if I was authorized to receive a dividend?

Settle down everyone, it’s built into the rates.

It’s a gimmick to make their insureds feel special, and it works.

It’s just an insurance company no matter how tingly you get from the commercials.

$262

I guess you people who have had the insurance for years, yet haven't heard of SSA, simply have so much money that you don't notice it when a couple hundred dollars show up in your account.

That's just a distribution. I guess everybody has an SSA that you can collect about 6 months after you discontinue your insurance. Apparently those accounts can become sizable over many years.

That makes sense, but I'm more concerned than excited. I hope I didn't miss 13 years worth of paper dividend checks in the mail. It's my fault if I did, of course, but damn, that would suck. Probably more likely that I just didn't notice it being applied to my insurance bill though.

Generally, I believe if the distribution is under a certain amount, it is automatically applied to your auto insurance bill, unless you elect differently.

After the Board approves the distribution, an email goes out to all members telling them to make an election, if you haven't already.  I made my election back in '05 and haven't changed it since.

There are 2 USAAs.

The original USAA which had some specific membership requirements, and the subsidiary that USAA spun off to include more military members and family, aka Garrison Property and Casualty Insurance.

Bailed out of USAA about 5 years ago.  After about 30 years in.  It is not the same company that built the brand.

Take a look back at the series of swamp creatures who have infested the board of directors for about the last 10 years.  Annual compensation range from $233,000 to $461,000.  They are all purely political operatives.  Confirmed by the senate.  As swampy and "woke" as anyone else in DC.  It is an incestuous club paid by the members.  Check em out.  https://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/about_usaa_corporate_governance_board_of_directors?akredirect=true

The idea that it is great to get a return of your own money is on par with being happy by getting a big tax refund.

What is the board doing?  They are monetizing one of the best brands in the country for their own benefit.

The customer service is a shadow of what it used to be.  The company brand was built on top-end customer service, now it is no better than any other large insurance company.  Why is that?  Because the customers are not the same as what built the company.  What do I mean?  I mean the current customers are no different than those of any other large insurance or financial company.  The average risk in their insurance is not different than any other large insurance company.  I will bet you that their fraud numbers, which used to be practically zero, are on par with the industry.  The failures to pay are probably the same as well.

When did this all happen?  It happened when the BOD no longer catered to a small, fit, responsible army of customers.  The BOD made a decision to build a big, sloppy army of less responsible customers with worse credit, lower balances, and higher fraud rates.  Why did the board do this?  See para 2^^^^^.  A big army is more able to pay 17 board members about $5 million a year total, plus perks, for so little actual work it is sickening.

There will be a day when USAA looses its AAA ratings.  Mark my words.

And don't forget that this company is now "woke".  Look at the debacles in the advertising in the last few years.  And look at their current ads.  Tell me they are not "woke".

Good luck fellas.
