Moving companies are common carriers. §478.31 Delivery by common or contract carrier. and May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity? Note: regs require you notify the carrier in writing. |

While they can legally, check their terms & conditions as many don't want to move firearms or ammo and if your stuff ends up falling off the truck you're SOL.

I don't know if it is a good idea or not, but when I move, I transport my firearms so the remain under my control.

Only time I have ever had a gun stolen was by a moving company.
