Optics don't matter because the media controls the narrative. The only way to receive positive press is to do exactly what the media presses you to do--which is doing the left's bidding. Anything else will be portrayed as being some type of "-ist" (racist, nationalist, etc).
The Republicans should have worked on dismantling the information monopoly (i.e. Google, media, etc) when they had the chance. The majority of the people get bombarded by the left's narrative everyday, all day. The left's message is spewed on the radio as people drive to and from work. It's spewed at work (if you work for a large corporation). It's spewed on the television (news, shows, sports, commercials/ads). I lean to the right. Sometimes those messages can make me question my beliefs as they are so omnipresent. Somehow, the right needs to counter this. Again, the only way to not be demonized by the media is to do exactly as the left tells you to do. There is no escaping that. I will say the right does need to tame it's message a tad in order to attract people who aren't as polarized in their beliefs. We don't need to water down our message. We just need to present it in a way that isn't singularly focused on pleasing those on the hard right. |

Playing by their rules is a bad game. They control the press and the politicians, which means they control perception. Disruption, covert action and clear cut defense is all we’ve got right now, till we can sway public opinion we’ll continue to lose.
