I really dig classic kits.  I don't even try to "improve them" - I appreciate them as historical objects.

It’s like NIB toys from the past!
Fun to play with (in this case build model) but lose their value as soon as you open the box.

this was sold as a builder.....missing the instructions, decals, and stand.....so I got it relatively cheap, ordered new decals to build as Pan-Am aircraft.

The box art is worth it by itself.

I built that kit when I was a kid!

It was reissued in 2006......I've never even seen one of the reissues.  Ordered some decals from Draw...I'm going to do them up as Pan-Am aircraft [always liked the Pan-Am scheme]

Atlantis is supposed to release either the Revell one or smaller Monogram one this year.

Late to the thread.

There is an outfit in California called Rare Plane Detective. His business is all about acquiring old kits and he has a shit ton of them. Although he specializes in aircraft models, I do find some armor kits I like from time to time. Prices are reasonable as well.

I've wanted to add one of these to my collection for a long time and I have been HOUNDING Estes to re-release this kit.

Look at what a vintage kit is going for!

What’s the logic behind a 1/43 airplane kit?

It fits with the rest of the kits they sell.....1/43 is quite popular in France

I was wondering if that was the case.    1/48 translates into 1/4" = 1 foot.  1/43 doesn't seem to translate to anything though.  Seems based on tradition more than logic.  Am I missing something?

Probably a metric scale. Heller used 1/50 and 1/75 early on which are metric scales. Some Japanese models were made in 1/50 scale, too.

At that scale it would be close enough to 1/48 to add a rare bird to the collection.
