Anyone know if/when this will be released on DVD or Blu-ray? I can't make it to any showing

I'm at the theater and bought my tickets here. They said they didn't know what movie I was referring to when I asked for They Shall Not Grow Old. They are selling it as Grow Old.

I heard it might be showing at the bay of pirates theater, could just be a rumor.

I'm watching it tonight with the Old Man. It will be nice to share this with my dad.

The movie theater I'm at can't figure out how to show it. I'm assuming that it is live streaming and I've missed it. Not cool. Refund received.

Something interesting I caught. 1:12 to 1:14 in the trailer in the OP is footage of the British 55th Division after being hit by some sort of gas. There's a photograph of that exact same line of troops, which I've put below. You can compare it almost directly to the video. Looks like whoever was recording film was a few feet to the left of the photographer. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dc/British_55th_Division_gas_casualties_10_April_1918.jpg ETA: Screenshot from the trailer - https://i.imgur.com/zJyRSKe.jpg View Quote |

Just saw it; I thought it was great.
You have to understand that this was the infancy of film; it was almost impossible to get good up-close action shots, and the novelty means the day-to-day scenes are going to be full of guys staring at this new camera machine thingy. They did a great job with what’s out there. Would’ve preferred to see some more breadth though (airplane footage, German footage, etc) |

Man, I saw a documentary years and years ago that mentioned Texas was big post-WW1 due to military bases, wounded veterans, access to wide open spaces, access to the sea. A lot of gas victims recuperated in TX due to the dry environment which helped with "wet lungs" or something like that. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Interesting. My grandfather lost a lung due to mustard gas. supposedly, he was sent to Texas for rehab / convalescent care anyone know of any such hospitals in Texas, during/post war? Records request haven't shown anything we can track down about anything so family history got something right seeing how the NPRC fire wiped out a lot of stuff, I was hoping to maybe be able to track down hospital records.. just reaching, trying to find something to grab onto. |

I've had tickets for a few weeks to take my grandfather but first I was running late because of a call out for work and then a minute from the theater my wife calls to let me know she and my 8 month old got hit while running errands. I guess it wasn't meant to be, but maybe I can catch the showing on the 27th.

I saw it tonight in Londonderry, NH. In 3D, which I was not expecting. My father came down from up north to see it with me. Not so much a documentary on WWI as it is a commentary on the day to day life of British soldiers in the trenches. It was fascinating to watch. The colorized and restored footage was very impressive and brought the stories and history to life. So much detail is in apparent in B&W.

It will be showing on the 27th just a few miles from me.
Looking forward to it. |

I got back a little while ago. It was amazing. I really enjoyed the mini documentary at the end and Peter Jackson' commentary. It found it interesting when he brought up the part about many soldiers just standing still, staring at the camera and why they most likely did that.

Absolutely breathtaking!
If you go, be sure and stay after the credits to see the 30 minute film on how the feature was made. |

This isn't just another documentary. It's a film that helps preserve and restore a part of history that's slipping away quickly. I hope that they make enough money off of this to prompt them to do another. |

The movie was phenomenal!!!!
We saw it in 3D (and I hate 3D), and it was mind blowing. I have seen so much WW1 footage over the years, and 98% of this was new to me. |

I went this afternoon and watched the non 3D version
incredible story and well done movie. I thought there would be more combat footage but still glad I saw it |

It was very well done. What they did to enhance the footage is amazing. It’s a funny thing, watching that black and white footage, all grainy and sped up, it makes it feel less real, like they aren’t real events or people. Doing what they did was not only a technical achievement, it really helps it sink in that those things were really happening, and makes you feel like you are right there 100 years ago. As adults we know the events we are seeing are real, but footage brought to life like this really helps link the events we know about with our own reality, I’d that makes any sense. I think a film like this really sets in the reality of these events for the younger generation even moreso.
It reminded me so much of people I served with, or experiences I had in the uniform. They say that technology changes but soldiers don’t, and I really felt that. I laughed and smiled a lot of times as the movie brought back memories that were 100 years removed but so similar to some of my own. I teared up a couple times as well. The film really brought out not only the horrors of the battlefield, but the full range of humanity of those that fought in them. |

Saw it last night. When I saw it was 3D I was a little concerned, but was overwhelming impressed. Worth staying and watching the short presentation at the end. Great film, hopefully wins an academy award (if there still even doing it this year) for best documentary.

As stated, this was more about daily life in and out of the trenches rather than about any specific event. I thought that was pretty interesting, really, the day-to-day details. All the local theaters were only showing it in 3D and I thought the 3D and colorization were done very well. Thumbs up.

Only playing two days?
Ehhh, the damn place will be packed elbows to assholes. I'll wait till it's out on video. |

Saw it last night in 3D. Amazingly well done film. I didn't know there would be a "How we did it" at the end, tried to stay as long as i could but had my 6 and 8 year olds with me.
I think I'll go see it again on the 27th. If Anyone is interested in meeting up, I'm in Northern DE and could see it at Brandywine or people's Plaza or perhaps up in Oaks if need be (It'll be in 3D up there) |

I've brought my wife to several Fathom Events events. They've always been Sunday/Wednesday 2/7pm so a Thursday at 4pm will be different.

okay, I can see this Thursday, there are seats still available....
I haven't been in a theater in about 8 years or so. I could see myself going to this. is 3D worth it, or should I go with 2D? it doesn't look like an Imax version is available. |
