So I was at my local shop and they were booking transfers in. Now keep in mind that this is a family owned hardware store in a small town in PA that their typical “high end” AR business would be Colts with an occasional BCM or something thrown in.
While I was there they were booking in a Daniel Defense that was a 16” with a long rail and in a burnt bronze finish but nothing else remarkable about. Standard safety, charging handle, etc and the guy had paid $3400 for it. They were also booking in a While I was there somebody else was picking up another Daniel Defense AR pistol Is this a matter of people buying for and paying for what they can get? Is it people thinking “well if I can only get one more I’m going to get a good one” Just surprised by the amount of money being thrown around on Gucci ARs I say this having an LWRC but mostly Colts, budget builds or retros. |

They're buying what they can get. Or its what they wanted at some point in the future and are afraid they won't be able to purchase it.

Can't say for sure but I know my brother was looking for his first AR and after getting a line on a lower from somewhere he started looking at uppers. When he told me what he was looking at from PSA and how much it was (800 shipped) I had to steer him to a LaRue upper kit for the same price. Unfortunately now he's got to wait, that's all. He's up in WillPo..

ARs in the $700-1000 range sell because that's what people think they want.
Sub $700 ARs sell because people want to flip them. Over $1000 ARs sell because that's all that's left or people think they'll appreciate like the budget guns will. |
|
Just saw a kid buy a Rock River today and one box of ammo like the zombies were outside waiting for him. The guy asked if he wanted more mags than just the one that it came with. He said, "What for, there's no ammo to load into them".
That must suck. |

Fuck it man if prices are inflated/people are gouging; you are better off buying premium goods for a few hundred more.
This way you get your money's worth. Who wants to buy a Colt for $1200 when $1600-$2000 gets you a DD/Larue/Geiselle |
|
People are getting what they want because they think maybe it's the last chance. Of course the cheap stuff is flying off the shelves but a place local to me has a ton of high end stuff and it looks to be selling just as fast.

The whole firearms hobby sucks a fat dick right now. Can't buy shit, and if you can it's way over MSRP. Target shooting from the ammo fort is emotionally painful due to the cost.
It went from hobby to necessity, with all of the baggage that comes with it. |

I’ve been in the market for another V7 2055 lower since June.
I can’t find shit. These were $300 lowers all day long in 2019 too, so not poverty pony level gear at all. |

I've been looking at a WC AR9 SBR for a couple of months now, but purely out of want, not need. The odd part is, if you go to their "in stock firearms", they don't show any, of anything.
As an aside, I have no idea where the stamp requirements sit right now. Does this necessitate one? Barrel Length: 8" Round Threaded, 11.3" Round Threaded Overall Length: 25.25" (8" Barrel), 28.5" (11.3" Barrel) |
|
Combo of people getting whatever they can find, and 1st time buyers that wouldn't know a fair price if it walked up and stepped on their scrotum.
|
|
do you want to pay 2600 for a frankenstein build put together by bubbba down the street or 3400 for the DD? its an easy call at that price point to spend a little more for something better. change those numbers to 800 vs 1600 and it's a different story.

you think I want to shoot 2 buck around ammo through a white-trash gun?

If you were a custom builder, what would you have your smiths prioritize? Lower end builds or high $$?
|

My local shop had one semi auto rifle left on the shelf. An M1A. Every AR was sold out except a 9mm AR pistol. I'm sure it will be gone soon.

I was at a gun store yesterday... they had a wall full of ARs, SCARs, and even some desert tech bullpups. Prices were a tad high, but not crazy like on gunbroker. 3K for the SCARs. ARs were $600-$1000 depending on brand. All their Glock were like $600. Almost bought some ammo, but it was about 75% more than pre-panic prices.

The last two CHF Geissele uppers I bought were less than PSA uppers. Do the math.
Cheap caught up with high end faster than high end went up. |

I probably got a bit confused as they did have a couple Super Duties a while back. Like this one Attached File What’s weird though is it says it’s “in stock” on Lancer’s web site and it’s only $1999. |

Stopped in the local sporting goods store this afternoon and overhead the guy behind the counter selling the last AR they had on the shelf- some DPMS something.
|
|
A guy I work with bought a brand I haven't heard of 9MM AR pistol for $3,400 last week.
He then proudly showed me he got two Glock mags for $55 each. I actually didn't judge him because I didn't know if he was that retarded or the market was that retarded and I just haven't needed anything recently. |
|
Guess it’s time to break out some of my Franken builds and put a for sale sign on them!
|
|
During the SH panic higher end ar’s were mostly ignored and never really shot up in price. Same with certain imported ak’s. I’m now seeing wsar underfolders selling for $1500 on GB and maadi misr s/a’s going for $1300.00
|

Last time I went to a gun store all they had left were high end guns, Alexander Arms and Daniel Defense was it for AR's. The AA's with the carbon fiber barrels were pushing $3K with the DD's not far behind. They were almost out of handguns too, crazy times we are in.

|
I made $7k in last 4 days selling 4 PSA $300 builds with no sights . And a couple $500 glocks for $800-900. People buying whatever they can
|
|
So if I wanted to get top dollar for an upper-tier AR or two... where would I go to make hella cash on them? Got enough spare to start funding my dreams...

I think a lot of people are trying to buy what they actually wanted but maybe put off. The panic button got hit not too long ago.
OP- sounds like my place, AFB? |
|
Most of the people I have sold higher end ARs to are buying things they’ve always wanted and already have a couple.

I always wanted a DDM4 and managed to trade an Aero M5E1 I built 4 years ago for a nearly new DDM4V7 Pro. I had zero desire to buy 308 ammo for the Aero. This Daniel Defense is dope.

Guns are actually moving relatively slowly in NOVA (though maybe faster than previous years) and plenty of LGS's have items at every pricepoint. Only ammo is WTF priced. |

Maybe the guys buying them don't know that it's 98% shooter and 2% weapon.
And good luck finding enough ammo (at any price) to become a rifleman. |

Around here people are paying stupid prices for everything.
I saw a used mossberg Shockwave sell for $850! |
