@TheUnicorn said we should have a weenie thread, and I agree. It's been too long. Mine has gotten a lot grayer since that avatar pic.

Behold, my grizzled wiener, Oscar.

Also known as Tato, Potato, Snausage, etc.

He's 11.5 years old now.

Frazier and Steve...    Frazier (red) died on his birthday 2 years ago. He was 14...  That's a ripe old age for a weenie...

Steve is the black and tan, and he's the meanest damn dog I've ever owned.  He doesn't even like me...

Those beady little eyes, I love it. Dachshunds have the most distinctive eyes of any breed, I swear.

He is slick, skinny and long like an otter.  He's an eating machine.

Not sure which he loves more--eating or annoying his sister.

He also has to have surgery on Monday to repair his small umbilical hernia.

So today Ogden got dropped off to have his umbilical hernia repaired.  That means he couldn't eat past midnight.

He kept "reminding" me that he'd not been fed by running underneath the dog food containers.  I felt horrible about it.

Here's my little tard Jax.

He is the most neurotic dachshund I have ever owned. He can be quite pissy if things don't go his way and he will make sure you know it. If his pillow is not in the correct location on the bed, he will go get in his own bed and ignore you for the night. If you are not awake at an hour he deems reasonable to take him out and feed him (usually 6am), expect him to lay on your face and he will drag his weiner across it to make sure you get up.

Also, if he doesn't get his greenie after going outside and potty, he will stand there and bark at you until he gets it. I wanted to see how long he would go on about it, he barked for almost 20 minute until I caved.

And obviously he doesn't like getting his feet wet in order to poop.
Where are the other two?  You had three.

My sister took them when she moved.

Roxy and Meyer.

Roxy is getting to be an old lady now, slowing down considerably. Meyer is getting up there in age but he is still at it, terrorizing the neighborhood squirrels, or maybe the other way around.

Little man’s surgery went okay.  They said his hernia was actually more like an “outie” belly button but to be on the safe side I had them repair it.  He is at home resting and still hasn’t quite made up for being knocked out yesterday.

This is what happens when his sister doesn't make enough room in the snuggle bed for him.

He loves her.  She tolerates him.

I wish I could get my red one to snuggle to me like that, but she does everything on her OWN terms.
The brown dog likes being under the covers and likes to cuddle.

lol. I bought a dog hoodie for my male because he has almost no hair on his stomach or throat.

He was not amused.

Slightly off topic for you wiener types - I had heard somewhere from someone years ago that they were prone to back problems.  Is that true?

Yes.

Invertebrate Disc Disease (IVDD) is very common.

My little dude ruptured a disc a few years ago. It was miserable. He had no use of his back legs, bladder, etc for almost two months. We did the crate rest approach. The other option is $5k-$6k in surgery. Recovery odds are about the same.

I can't tell you how relieved I was when he started getting use of his legs back.

Oh my.
at the time, I was working for a smaller company and could bring him with me to work to watch over him and care for him. He had to have meds every few hours, and I had to express his bladder for him. He hated me and I can't say I blame him. From his perspective I was a monster torturing him.

Hate to think about it happening again. I can't exactly take a dog with me to work, and I juggle two jobs. I don't know what I'd do.

If you'd like to see how common it is, look at Dodger's List.
