I just started back in BJJ. I’ve had an issue in the past with tendinitis in my forearm because of all of the pulling and gri strain. It also happens if I do too many pull-ups.

Does anyone have any tips for preventing it or treating it when it flairs up?

If I have my thumb pointed up, it’s a couple inches below the elbow on top. It’s a tendon attached to a muscle that flexes when I make a fist and squeeze with my hand like that. It would be about where the red ends on the forearm in this pic. It may be in the ECRB.

So lateral epicodylitis (tennis elbow).

Best stretch is to lock the elbow in a straight line. Then keeping the elbow locked, extend the hand backward as close to 90 degrees as possible and rotate inward and outward (wax on/wax off).

The velcro straps with air pillow you can get over the counter are helpful for nighttime use. Don't crank it too tight or the arm will go to sleep.

Topicals and ibuprofen can help

Ibuprofen isn't great to take internally too much, but I've had real good luck with topical diclofenac for my tendonitis. I heard it's over the counter now.

Voltaren is the OTC name. There is a big endcap at Walgreens.

For forearms OP I've found the best luck in just finding the bad spots and beat them up my thumb or a golfball for an hour each night before bed. A couple weeks of that usually helps a lot.

I get it a lot on the outside of the top part from trowelling floors.

Stop doing what makes it hurt.  

I had it in my knees.  I stopped doing several things.  It went away.  I assure you, I can bring it back very quickly.

Aleve was the only thing that would relieve the swelling, and the doc told me to stop taking it because it raises BP severely.

I've been fighting clergyman's knee since June, it was so bad for awhile I could barely bend them every morning.

It's much better now but still lingering, I can't make it a few days without having to kneel at work though, even with brand new pads on, that shit is not good for them.

Stretching and wearing a ‘medical quality’ brace can usually get me through the bad spots/flare ups that happen a few times a year for me.  Had one year where I had a cortisone shot but try to avoid those if at all possible. Learning to lift with my palms up and wearing the brace consistently when working have allowed me to manage it for the last 5 years or so. Over the counter meds never did much for the pain so I avoid them as well. Good luck to ya OP.

Good warm up before exercise and ice it down afterwards.  Those plus Ibuprofen helped me.

Oddly enough for me, this actually didn't help- I tried. I ended having to continue doing things that hurt it, just lighter and less + mobility + the topical anti inflammatory. This started causing me problems in...2017 I think? It's just now at about 90% healed.

I had tendentious in my left elbow for over two years (golfer's elbow, literally from golfing).

I tried a cortisone shot, worked for a month, tried stretching, bought a device to "break-up" the scar tissue.  Nothing really worked, so I just said "F' it" and did whatever I wanted and dealt with the discomfort.  It has finally subsided in the last few months and I even played golf for the first time in over two years, no issues.

Tendonitis is the symptom Tendonopathy is the issue.

Tendonopathy is most often caused by too much time under tension without enough rest. Proper strengthening and recovery steps are what you need for a long term cure. The link below gives a basic guide for treatment.

Think of a tendon with tendinopathy like a building with a crack in the foundation. You wouldn't say, "Let's just not live in the building for a while. The crack will get better." No, the crack must be repaired. Staying away from it does nothing. When it's time to move fast, sprint, or lift heavy things, the tendon simply can't transfer the forces without getting pissed off again. Tendons must be remodeled, stabilized, and strengthened.

Wrist curls (both supinated and pronated) seems to be helping arm pain I've been having during pulling movements lately - around 3x10 each way. I feel more irritation when I slack off on them.

I've never tried it, put these rice bucket exercises are supposed to help as well.

3 days after my first shot of deca durabolin and it was gone. Most people can get by with the advice in this thread through and feel great.

Wish I has some deca.  Ive had it on and off on the back of the elbow right where the distal triceps tendon attaches.

Treating it:  Rest, ice, anti-inflammatories, then PT.

Prevention:  Ongoing PT and strength training.

It happened to me also, all I could do was just keep going and just let it bother me, kept lifting and after months it went away now pain is in another location and I’ll just do the same, Voltaren helped but only a little

You can find cheaper clinics online but ive been happy with the service there and they are professional.

I pay about 2500 a year of 200mgs of test, 3 mg anastrozole, and 100mgs of deca weekly. I have access to ugl stuff from Moldova that's cheaper by half but the anastrozole was fake and the test seemed overdosed to me.  I did test both the deca and test with my test kit and it was real but my kit doesn't show strength.

gotten it really bad in my right forearm after not lifting for a while due to my second distal bicep tendon tear.  

it kills when gripping hard like lifting a plate one handed, certain positions while curling etc...

the advice earlier about keeping your arm straight and rotating your hand while keeping it bent 90* send to help out pretty well though.

Doing the “Tyler twist” with a green Theraband brought me immediate relief.  I was stunned at how well it worked.  I have been doing a lot of overhead kettlebell pressing and both of me elbows were killing me.  Three days of Theraband and I’m about 100 is the left elbow and 90 in the right.

When I had horrible tendinitis in my knee I took 4 capsules of turmeric daily. Two in the morning and two at night. Drank a “golden milk” turmeric latte at lunch time. At night I would make a paste with turmeric and olive oil and rub it on the affected area just below my knee. I’d wrap it in plastic wrap and an ace bandage to not stain my bedding. The surgeon, who fixed my other leg after being crushed, who did the MRI of this said it was the entire tendon and one of the worst cases of tendinitis in a knee he’s seen. When back 2 months later for another MRI and he couldn’t believe it was all gone. I was completely pain free and haven’t had issues in years.

Sounds absolutely ridiculous, but it got rid of it.

I just broke my arm earlier this year and developed tendinitis in my wrist. I’ve been taking turmeric daily again and it’s helped immensely. Doing stretching exercises to help regain my range of motion also helps.

Stretching, rest, and ibuprofen are sure fire ways to delay healing a good long time.  i.e. They don't work very well.

You need active recovery. Tendons don't get much blood flow. Blood flow heals. You need to increase the blood flow.

Using rubber bands do the motion that hurts the most (e.g. if it hurts to curl, then do that).

Pick a resistance that permits you to do sets of at least 50 reps. The last three or four reps should be difficult. Rest between set but then do at least 4 sets of 50 reps every day until healed. Each set should BURN from lactic acid buildup. It's one of things that helps it heal.

You will be amazed at the results.

I have cured tendinitis in my biceps, shoulders, adductors, and knees using this method.

There really are no downfalls to it really. It doesn’t upset my stomach like anti inflammatory medication. Every surgeon, therapist, or specialist I’ve seen for my numerous injuries all swear by it. The last doc I just saw for breaking my arm/wrist/hand, said she was part of a big study at Harvard for it and the benefits are incredible. She recommended I take it as well. It’s helped me more than any meds or treatment other than PT.  

You have to make sure you turmeric supplements that have the piperine (black pepper?) in it. It helps your body absorb the turmeric as it can only do so much on its own.
