There is a small shopping mall about 40 miles from me with an Aladdin's Castle arcade. Recently, I was dumbfounded to learn it's the very last one left.

I loved them.
It’s probably full of toy grabbers and coupon games now though… |
Don't remember the name of the arcade we hung out in. But spent lots of quarters there.

Aladdin's Castle, Time Out, and Supercade were my three favorites growing up. Even had a private birthday party at Aladdin's Castle once. Good times.
A retro arcade opened a few years ago near me. Very cool to go in and play the old school games. |
Good old Quincy! Spent many hours in that very arcade as a youngster when we visited the big city

Dr. Scott's Pinball - Maumee, Ohio |

Arcade Longplay [477] Golden Axe |

There was an Aladdins Castle at one of the small malls near the skating rink we used to go to when I was a teen. We would meet there before going skating. I liked the Defender and Wizard of Wor games.

The one in the Warwick mall was better than the one in the Midland Mall.
Roast House was right next door. Fun 'N Games in Johnston was great in that early to mid 80s. However DG's Arcade was the balls. Both locations. |
Around here the arcades were “Spaceport.” I spent a lot of hours in there. I miss the mall era…
Arcades were fun until you needed $1.00 to play for 3 minutes

The best thing about the Aladdin's Castle we hung out at was on Friday nights when the mall closed if you paid $10 they'd lock you in with all the machines on free play for one hour. I can only assume this was a local only thing as we never saw any advertisements for it. You'd track down one of the employees before the mall closed and hand over your sawbuck and get your ticket, then when the mall was closing you'd line up outside, they'd take your ticket, and in you went.
I remember a friend and I beat several games that way. Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Bad Dudes, Altered Beast... all beat using free play. |
Yeah we had one at our mall. Spent a lot of time there in the 70's playing Asteroids, Space Invaders, Galaxian and Kiss pinball.
Used to love the one in the local small mall that had a K-Mart, three screen theatre, a Sharper Image, and more.
A bunch of claw grab machines does not an "arcade" make.
It's dead Jim. |
Oh hell yeah! The Green Tree Mall in Clarksville Indiana had one... spent a lot of time in there

not sure if any I went to were named that. but grew up in arcades.
We had some big ones. Grand Prix Race-o-rama. became something else after that and added second arcade. The Castle Mark Twain's Riverboat playhouse and a few dozen others. Was a decent size one at Movie City 10. Half the time I still play Galaga and sometimes 1 token is a hour or more. |
That was a little before my time. I was a '90s kid, Diamond Jim's was our arcade.
Been there many times back in the day. Used to be one in another town nearby called Wizard World.
It's been many a year since I've heard that name.
Used to love that place as a kid, spent endless hours there. |

Did they have Bad Dudes? I've spent a amall fortune at Alladin's Castle and Hot Sam in my youth.
I still have a token from Aladdin's Castle.
Those were the days. I'm old and have lived too long. |
In 2019, my daughter and I were in a car show on 4th Street in Tucson. While walking around, I spotted a business advertising pin ball machines. It was repairing/refurbishing old school pinball machines and had a bunch of them on the floor to play. I gave my daughter, who was 16 at the time, a stack of quarters and told her to have fun. She loved it!

We were regulars at Aladdin's Castle and then we got a Spaceport. Much bigger arcade with cooler decor.
This was 1974, so you can imagine how primitive the games were compared to today. Good times though, long haired girls in bell bottom jeans and halter tops. |
DFW is lucky enough to have a few classic old-school style arcades. Every few years I go to one, a little wistfully, and have an afternoon of nostalgia.
My fondest arcade memory is learning to drive stick on Ferrari 355 Challenge right before buying my first manual car (yeah I'm not super old ). |
I remember going to the Southlake Mall in Merrillville, IN as kid. The arcade was pretty good.
I wasn't exactly a teen being born in 78 but I remember the castle.
Looks like the 1 at the Fox Vally mall I used to frequent as a teen in the early 80's...
Being a farm kid I didn’t go there very often but remember maybe 2-3 times.
It was kind of neat still. I just recently found a stash of their coins and recycled them. Kept one though for myself. |
I spent a lot of my hard earned lawn mowing money in that place.
Used to be in the mall right by my house and school. Place was so dark inside and just added to the awesome ambiance. There was even a cool pet store next to it. Such a great place to go as a kid.
That one looks to have terrible games. Probably not its fault that this crap is what passes for entertainment. |
Also I really only wanted to play foosball or air hockey or something like that the couple times I went.
I was already a Nintendo kid so I didn’t quite get the alure of pumping quarters in just to continue playing. |
What happened to all those big video game machines? They just dump them in the ocean or what. You never see them anywhere.
I have a couple Aladdin's coin tokens around somewhere. A blast from the past.
How close is it to Spensers and the food court?
Damn, get off my lawn… |
Didn't have those in Quebec.
But boy do I remember how cool it was to go to the arcade. We were the poor, so I had to mow lawns, shovel driveways, and recycle aluminum cans for my arcade money. Also: Pac-Man Fever (Original) |
