A4 Skyhawk as a chase plane.

This thing looks like a good successor to the F5 family of aircraft and a bundle of other types.

I don't know why, but every time I see a pic of these the canopy just seems large and slightly out of proportion to the rest of the plane.

Gives excellent visibility.

Can't wait until we get those things fielded and we retire the tired old T-38s.

Keeping my fingers crossed we also use them as an AT-7 for some LAAR work, maybe get a FT-7 light attack or light air/homeland defense in order to relieve some higher performance assets.

I'd love to see this turn into an American option to compete against the FA-50, L-259, and old F5s.

Especially for a trainer. Instructor pilots had some say in that.

But they were wearing masks--where are the shouts and howels?

F404?

That must give it a pretty insane thrust to weight ratio!

Negative G's SUCK.  But cool video.

And it's got an afterburner!

I would have shoved in a P&W F135 for fleet compatibility.

Looks like a F16 and F18 got drunk, hooked up, 9mo later the T7 was born.

Is the T7 comparable in size to the F5's/T38? I went to a place in TX that rebuilds them and saw some up close and taken apart and they are tiny.

I dislike sustained inverted flying.  Just short of hate.  I had an excellent lap belt with a rachet so I could cinch down tight, too.

Do you two hear yourselves?  You're complaining about negative Gs in an inverted fighter jet?  I guess it's better than sunburn from pulling off a tar roof in the summer.

Also configurable as a light attack plane, gotta be able to put eyes on the ground for that.

"Inverted fuel flow test"..... WTF,  it's not a 1937 Stearman biplane with a carb float and a gravity-fed fuel tank.

AeroE,

do you know of any attempt to integrate pylons or weapons bays into the T-7A as of yet, or is most commentary on that pure speculation from Boeing or USAF with no monetary backing as of yet?

I know the T-50/FA-50 has that capability and has been purchased as a light fighter by the Philippines, and know the M-346 was pitched as having that capability (but don't know offhand if any received pylons).

It sucks sitting in the back as an IP and not being able to see what the student is pointing at with the nose.

nah, once you have ridden an inverted spin 35,000 feet down, negative G is easy

Used to do the airshow thing in the 90s, the Mig17s flying around were ours before Bill reeseman bought them.  The cuban 8 was negative 3-4 g's for a second and was pretty wild.  Now I'd rather drive were I am going.

Let's not take inverted and partial feed tank volumes at < +/- 1g as granted.

It's a neat little plane.

I can't wait to see them in the air.

I'll miss the T-38 though. Like sleek daggers that can't slow down and are waiting to wreck your pattern
