So I keep hearing people say that theyve weathered the storm by having their money in "stable funds"

Im about 25 years out from retirement, and have kind of set myself up similar to Bogles 3 fund theory(Market index, Bond index,Int index)

What are these stable funds? I would assume like money markets, and that its mainly for folk at or near retirement age?

Yes, MMKT or short term bond/fixed.  Not just for folks near retirement, but when one wants a very short duration portfolio to protect from interest rate risk in a rising rate environment, for example.
