In the OT, the Israelites stirred up God’s wrath several times.  Eventually He allowed the northern kingdom to be exiled.  Continued disobedience led to the destruction of the Temple and exile for 70 years.

Herod’s Temple was destroyed in 70AD by Rome’s legions under the command of the future emperor Titus.  What was the reason for God’s wrath?  This is not recorded in the Tanakh.

Obviously, Christians believe there is this guy who predicted the temple destruction 40 years (a highly symbolic number in the OT) before it occurred- because the Temple was no longer needed.

I’m curious as to how this is handled in Jewish theology? And since there hasn’t been a temple since 70AD, does that mean that God is still displeased?

This is a great topic. Can any of or Jewish brothers weigh in on this?

Since our two prolific posters of alleged Jewish faith choose to remain silent, I’ll just assume that means they agree.

God was angry.  He was angry that His chosen people had rejected Him utterly and completely.

But even after Christ ascended, God offered the nation of Israel another chance at repentance.  During his trial described in Acts,  St. Stephen’s defense isn’t a defense at all.  It’s a condemnation of the priests and scribes.

“Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become; you who received the law as ordained by angels, and yet did not keep it.””
??Acts? ?7:52-53? ?NASB1995??

And in an almost tragically comedic sense, the Jewish council stones Stephen to death.

The destruction of the temple is a physical representation that Judaism as a religion is obsolete.  No further sacrifice is necessary.  The new temple is God’s Church with Jesus Christ as the both the High Priest and the unblemished Paschal Lamb.

This is indeed the case, but I think there is some more nuance to it.

Remember how angry the Pharisees were when Christ predicted the fall of the Temple?

MT 24:2
1 Jesus left the temple area and was going away, when his disciples approached him to point out the temple buildings.
2 He said to them in reply, “You see all these things, do you not? Amen, I say to you, there will not be left here a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

and

John 2:18-22
At this the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?” 19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”
21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

It's the completion of God's covenant with David.  Jesus as a direct descendant is king forever,  only his kingdom is not of this world (as he told Pilate).
