My grandfather is 89 and in an old folks home because he needs rehab after having surgery on a leg and cannot get around on his own. Probably never will again honestly.
He received the vaccine on Saturday. All indications was he fine otherwise before it was administered. Monday night the nurse made a round to make sure everyone was ready for bed. My grandfather was already in bed and unresponsive. He was burning up with a 104 temp. He went straight to the ER next door basically. He has pneumonia and low O2 so bad he was intubated and put on ventilator. IDK if the vaccine has a damn thing to do with his condition or not but... He continues to test negative for covid. |

Maybe it's safe, maybe it's not, time will tell. If you want it, go for it, I choose not to. However, when you have management reminding RNs to be sure to take a picture next to the "I got vaccinated" sign and post it online, you have to admit that there's a lot of political theater involved.

My 90 year old father (26 years active military service) has his own mind to make up and he's lived with us for the last 2 years. Whatever he decides, I will go along with because it's HIS decision. He could golf his age up until about 7 years ago (using the womens tee, which he doesn't like LOL). He complained to me at 83 that he's never doing 36 holes again in one day (I'm like "dad, what do you want at your age!?). After he fractured his back 3 years ago, he kind of went downhill fast, but I've been told by friends that at his age, he's still ahead of the game after the injury he had. |

I called the elderly people in my life and had discussions with them to get a feel for their intent. If I was, say over 65, I'd give it serious consideration, however, I'm very very concerned about the politics that were played and the long term repercussions of putting political pressure on medical and scientific people. Maybe because assloads of people have had the vaccine now and almost all of them have been fine? long term effects (as in, 20 years down the road) aren't a big concern when you're 80
