I've too much of a  cheap ass to shoot my mag fed rifles right now. So I scratched an itch for a 1874 Sharps in 45-70. Bought a Pedersoli new with the 32" barrel, straight grip stock, semi buckhorn rear sight & blade front sight.  I'm addicted to the damn thing now.

First target. Mediocre 100yd . With Hornady 325gr FTX. Forgot to take a drift for the front sight. The flyer was my fault.  Set triggers are new to me.

My wife went full on retard with the single shot. Found herself an H&R 1873 Officers model trapdoor Springfield in 45-70.  She's  since found herself  a full black powder reloading setup for it. Casting bullets too. The bitch took half my primer stash! It's a hoot to shoot though.

I agree - they're a relaxing, fun way to shoot, but I no longer have my muzzleloader, and I gifted my only other single shot to my step-son.

Same here,  make sure you get the copy of Buffalo rifles seen in the picture.

Also make sure to get the lee 405 grain Bullet mold.
It was made for the trapdoor.

These are the ones that make it to the range with any regularity, but I do have a Trapdoor rifle and carbine as well as a Shiloh Sharps Hartford tucked away.

My Whitworth .375 H&H is among my favorite bolt action rifles to shoot. I’ve had No.1s in 7x57 and .223 but neither were very accurate. Still I always wanted a No. 1 in 375 H&H. How does yours shoot?

Is the accuracy good with that linked ammo?  I've been considering a 50BMG since the ammo is only $3 a round.  Nearly the same price as 9mm LOL.

Also 50 primers are about the only ones available.

OP, get yourself a Lee Shaver tang sight and you'll really see what that Sharps can do.

Yes they are.  At the moment I have a Browning 1885, wanted a Sharps but at 60 I need optics and the Browning is easy to scope. 45-70 of course.

I have Contender pistol in 14" .30-.30, and 14" .223. Great fun, rides great on utv's.

Want a rifle next, debating on what caliber.

Yes they are. H&R M12, single shot .22LR 28" Full floating bull barrel, I think it weighs 11 lbs. Has an adjustable trigger, usually set to around 1/2 lb. Good for dime sized groups at 75 yards.

Might as well show off the wifes trapdoor. Now to get the sights dialed in. The tang peep sight has no range markings on it & the front is way off left. A small file and a bunch of ammo can remedy that. Real sweet shooter with 405gr RNFP over 60gr of FFg.

The only single shot rifle I have (aside from muzzleloaders) is an old H&R Topper that came with a 20 gauge and a .22 Hornet barrel.

However, last year I bought this Swedish M1867 Rolling Block converted to a single shot 20 gauge shotgun. It was built by Remington in 1867. The firing pin was broken when I got it so I made a replacement on my 7x14 lathe. I shoot it with BP handloads in Magtech all brass cases. It carries really nicely in the woods and it's a hoot to shoot informal trap with it.

My last SBR was a Contender. I'll get a trapdoor, falling, or rolling block eventually, but I keep running into the cycle where I can't decide between a .357, .45-70, or jumping to a No 1 in a "real" rifle caliber like 6.5x55. I appreciate that the singles give me more options for running wierd loads especially.

Try a 1885 Winchester rifle in 45-70, Better balance for me an the tang sight doesn't get in my way.

Was that a new/recent purchase? Been eyeballing those. Which model is that...Business? If recent, where from, because I guess now is as good a time as any to get one if the price is not too...panic crazy.

Recent purchase.  Got the Sharps end of December or first day or two of January at Bass Pro here. It's a Business model I think. I can check the box after work tomorrow morning.  They had it marked $1600, but i got em to take a few hundred off due to some easily fixed compression on the stock. Seriously a damp washcloth, iron, & #0000 steel wool fixed took care of it in maybe 15 minutes.  So I was out the door for $1450.

My wife found the trapdoor at a little hole in wall gun shop in the middle of nowhere a few days after I bought the  sharps.  Think she gave $800 out the door. Probably another $200 or $300 or so in her quest for reloading supplies. Not counting the primers she stole from me. Shes got exactly no use for an Ar or Ak, strictly old stuff / designs.

I’ve wondered, does anybody load the 120 with smokeless, or is it strictly a black powder proposition? Sharps strong enough for a hot load? Or would you need a stronger platform? (If there is one?)
