I started this little project last Thursday.  I thought it would take me 4-6 months to get to this point.

Never seen one of those before.  When I saw the interior, I thought an A6 and a Sky Raider had an ugly baby.

Far from it.  It’s a resin conversion kit combined with a Trumpeter Skyraider kit in 1/32 scale.  Paul Fisher put the conversion kits out and I got this one about a week before the Camp Fire out in Paradise CA.  Paul lost everything in the fire but his wife, two dogs and the car they fled in. Paul was also a very well known Luthier in the music industry.

Resin kit is the fuselage, cockpit and all canopy parts along with the cowl and the huge belly radome.   Out of the Trumpeter kit you basically use the wings, engine horizontal stabilizers and landing gear.  Lots of left over kit to throw away if you don’t want to store parts.
And I have two of these to build.  The other is the USAF A-1E

Very nice. I remember these planes from pouring over the Janes All the Worlds Aircraft books in my local library when i was a kid. Impressive looking kit.

I got all the white sprayed Sunday.   Did the white in acrylic, but I stocked up on Gloss Gull Gray enamel when Testors discontinued it. I’m going to try it with some Japan Drier since the enamels take so long to dry.

Will do.  Gotta give that enamel paint at least 48 hours cure, even with the Japan Drier I added.  Next step is the corroguard edging and the black in the tip of the stab and sun glare on windshield and cowl.

Minor update today.  Sprayed the gray on the cowl and the baffles on front of the engine.

Done!  5 weeks and one day to the finish.  I think that’s record time for any of my bigger builds.

Are you going to weather it?

Did some very light panel line enhancements that don’t show up in the pics.  Of course along with exhaust staining done.  Those Navy birds were all over the place with condition.
