I purchased it about 5 years ago from the CMP and the provenance on this XM3 is exceptional. My friend took a bunch of photos of the rifle, put his name on the logbook and filled out a page or two in the logbook with the location of where he used it (Camp Baharia). There's also a pretty well known photo of this exact XM3 floating around online, but it was taken by a sniper from a previous unit and the rifle had an older paint job. Since this rifle has logbook documentation and photographs of it in Iraq from 2 different units on 2 separate deployments, it makes this rifle the best documented XM3 in private hands! All of the CMP XM3's are good to go, but none of them have in country photos like this rifle does! Here's a photo of this XM3 that was taken by a sniper from another unit on a different deployment. The XM3's were regional assets, so once they were brought into Iraq they stayed in their specific AO. When my unit got to Camp Baharia, 4 XM3's were sitting there waiting for us and we turned them over to 1/7 when they ripped with us. This is what my XM3 looked like when we first pulled it out of the armory, Sgt. These photos were taken at Camp Baharia and you can see the man-made lake in the background. Camp Baharia used to be a luxury resort called Dreamland for Iraqis before the war and Sadam's 2 sons had a palace on the island in the center of the lake. The palace was destroyed and there's tons of stories from the locals about the crazy shit the 2 brothers would do there (rape and kill women, then sink their bodies in the lake). I did get to go fishing in the lake and I caught some species of Asp or whatever. My Dad lived in W. Germany in the 80's. He had friends who would scuba dive at night under bridges and scour the mud for weapons tossed in at the end of WWII. This .50cal cap and ball pistol came from the Rhine. It's in remarkably good shape. The springs are gone, but the action still works.

  The inscription in Arabic reads, "A gift from the president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein." Impossible to track down the exact history of this one but it was likely given to a high ranking official or one of his personal security guards. It was sold to me by a peshmerga general. There were two versions of Tariq produced. One version which was quickly and cheaply produced for as many Iraqi soldiers as possible while they were at war with Iran, and one version which was carefully reproduced from the original Beretta M1951 design specifically for Saddam to give as gifts. Here they call them "big line" and "small line" referring to the size of the engraving. Mine seems to have been a holster queen. Barrel looks absolutely pristine but it has all the tell tale wear marks of being in a holster it's whole life. Shoots great. If I'm ever able to get it back to the US it will probably go in a museum but till then, it's my daily carry (when I'm able). If anyone has ever seen one with this inscription in the US, let me know. |

If you crank the handle the barrels rotate and there is a clicking sound to mimic firing sounds. Anyone have a complete one or info on these i would love to hear more about them. |

That was also the range used by other shooters who wanted to attempt a challenge. It bears mention that there was no use of the sights in those extreme speed shots; he had such fine muscular control that it would have been redundant to aim in a conventional way. However, McGivern was also a pioneer in mounting telescopic sights on his pistols, so he was definitely not against using sights. Also, he was about three months past his 59th birthday when the 2/5ths and 9/20ths record were set (the dates given on Wikipedia are incorrect). I can't remember if I already posted these or not. A pair of cast iron blacksmiths. Grandmother told me that she played with them
as a kid,early 1890's. She said that they were pretty old then. I'm guessing that they may have been used as doorstops.  |

This is a sample of dirt I scraped from Chapo's escape tunnel that led from Altiplano Federal Penitentiary to a residence under construction about 4500 feet away. My intent was to submit it to UTEP School of Mines for analysis, but never got around to it.
 I was in both ends of the tunnel. You never want to end up in a Mexico prison if you can avoid it. |

Couple of patches from work trips in the Pacific. The Tuvalu Police patch came off the Chief's sleeve. I was on Tuvalu for a week, good place to relax and get away from everything. The Vanuatu patch from the airport ARFF station at Port Vila. Quite a bit ahead of some of the other islands I've been to.

 i don't know that another complete example exists. i've seen a picture of the outer box from a museum in europe but have no way of knowing if the contents are there or not. they were discontinued in '44 and they were told to use up existing stockpiles. the crews didn't like all the preparation and wanted ready to eat foods |
