A Wamo 22lr dueling pistol the Frisbee company denies Making, even though I have seen period adds that says otherwise. There is supposedly around 500 of these. Some claim a bit higher numbers and some less.

I can't find it to take a picture, but it's an original 1939?  French manual on operating the turrets in the Maginot Line.

They were not made by "Frisbee" but by Wham-O in the 1950's.. Wham-O made alot of products and Wham-O bought the "Pluto-platter" in 1957 and re-named it "Frisbee".. the name Frisbee is not a company but product made by Wham-O.  which has since been bought by Mattel in 1994 then to a chinese company in the early 2000's

Sorry I missed your post, I purchased the 9 USMC Colt M45A1's on Gunbroker when they were originally released for about $1,300 to $1,400 per pistol (they started raising the prices and in the end the last ones were selling for around $2k). Right now the used ones are worth $5k to $6k and the new in box ones sell for between $7k and $10k (depending on the auction and who's bidding).

I have 1 of the 4 IBA XM3's that my STA platoon had in Fallujah, Iraq during our 2008/9 deployment! We used 2 of the rifles, the other 2 sat in the armory. Even though I wasn't issued this rifle (it was issued to one of my friends in the platoon, Sgt Fechner), it's still mind-blowing to know that we had it in Iraq and it's sitting in one of my gun safes right now! I purchased it about 5 years ago from the CMP and the provenance on this XM3 is exceptional.

My friend took a bunch of photos of the rifle, put his name on the logbook and filled out a page or two in the logbook with the location of where he used it (Camp Baharia). There's also a pretty well known photo of this exact XM3 floating around online, but it was taken by a sniper from a previous unit and the rifle had an older paint job. Since this rifle has logbook documentation and photographs of it in Iraq from 2 different units on 2 separate deployments, it makes this rifle the best documented XM3 in private hands! All of the CMP XM3's are good to go, but none of them have in country photos like this rifle does!

Here's a photo of this XM3 that was taken by a sniper from another unit on a different deployment. The XM3's were regional assets, so once they were brought into Iraq they stayed in their specific AO. When my unit got to Camp Baharia, 4 XM3's were sitting there waiting for us and we turned them over to 1/7 when they ripped with us. This is what my XM3 looked like when we first pulled it out of the armory, Sgt. Fechner painted it FDE soon afterwards.



Here are the photos Sgt. Fechner took when he finished painting the rifle. These photos were taken at Camp Baharia and you can see the man-made lake in the background. Camp Baharia used to be a luxury resort called Dreamland for Iraqis before the war and Sadam's 2 sons had a palace on the island in the center of the lake. The palace was destroyed and there's tons of stories from the locals about the crazy shit the 2 brothers would do there (rape and kill women, then sink their bodies in the lake). I did get to go fishing in the lake and I caught some species of Asp or whatever.

Incredible…..I bet not for one minute do you think that wasn’t a wise investment.

Hence Wamo the second word in my post, spelled like the add you posted. Not Wham-o. I said the frisbee company as that is what most people think of. They did make Frisbees though and the guns  were one of the partner's side projects. The other wanted no part of firearms.

I am nearly 100% sure nobody here has one of these. The question is what is it....? It's just a little smaller than a pool ball.

Sort of, but it's not a bug with the board software.  Your phone uses a non-standard method of designating orientation, that isn't supported by your browser.  

The sensor in your phone's camera always captures and presents data in a certain order, regardless of the orientation of the phone when the photo was taken.  The developers COULD have decided to have your phone process the image and save it in the proper orientation, but that would take the processor some time (up to several seconds), during which your phone would be "busy" and not respond to the user.  So it was decided to just have the phone save it "as is," and include data in the file that indicates which direction is supposed to be up.  Then the image will be processed when you go to display it, where a second or two isn't going to be noticed as much.  The problem is that all OTHER devices and programs (in this case, your web browser) which display images don't look at a separate tag which says "hey, this photo should be rotated 180 degrees because johnny cameraman was holding the phone upside down,"  and then employ a lot of memory and processor cycles to throw a few million pixels around.  Rather, they just display the image in the format it was saved.

Negative,found it in a box of miscellaneous junk at a yard sale and have no idea what it is except for being copper.

Does anyone else here have an original USMC M40? I am lucky enough to have 2 of them! The top M40 in the photo below is Major Dick Culver's M40, which was rebuilt after the Vietnam War.



I've taken Major Culver's M40 to the range and it shoots about 1/2 MOA consistently, which is pretty great for a 66 year old war rifle!





The bottom M40 in the first photo I posted was in the Corps' possession, but never issued. Apparently it went to Vietnam, but wasn't on any serial number lists, so it was sent back to Camp Pendleton and it was given to an officer who also recently came back from Vietnam. I trust this story (at least to some extent), just based on analyzing the various parts on the rifle.

The receiver is serial number 221235, which means it was part of the original production of USMC M40 receivers in 1966. However, the scope is the highest serial number I've ever recorded, F80450 (I have owned at least a dozen of these original Redfield greenies and have studied dozens of others). This is much higher than the typical F57xxx serial number range on the Redfield greenies from 1966.

The scope mount is also marked with the receiver's serial number in the center of the mount, instead of the front of the mount. This is exactly like how the early 1968 322xxx M40 mounts were marked. The barrel also has an AR date code, which puts it at March 1968. There's also a 7.62 stamp on it, which was commonly seen on later 6257xxx serial number M40's that were made in late 1968 (after the GCA was passed and Remington changed the serial numbers on the Model 700's) and 1969.

Taking all this information into account, the rifle appears to have been built in March 1968, since that's the date from the barrel. The highest known serial number scope and a mount that's marked in a location like later M40's also point to an early 1968 build. The receiver was made in 1968, but was most likely an overrun and was kept in stock at Remington until the Corps ordered more M40's.

The Mk22 is officially replacing the M40 this year, so after 66 years of continuous use in various forms, the M40 is no longer going to be the Scout Sniper's primary sniper rifle. The M40 is significant for many reasons, but one reason most people never think about is how it's the United States military's first sniper rifle that was built from scratch to be a sniper rifle. All the sniper rifles that were in use before it came from rifle that were already in service and then modified to be a sniper rifle (Krag, M1903, M70, M1 Garand, M14, etc.). The M40 really paved the way for all future US sniper rifles and the M40A1 was our first battle hardened sniper rifle with a stock and scope that weren't easily damaged.

Gorham electroplated nickel-silver 4 oz coffee creamer for the University of California SF hospital. It was found in a garage of my new residency, a flat near UCSF. I didn't see these creamers when I went to UCSF (1973, but moved into the flat in 1975), and it doesn't say UCSF, just Univ. Cal. Hospital, suggesting it came before the "revolt" which split the UC Med Center in San Francisco from UC Berkeley. I'd say this was quite a find... worth at least $20.

I got this when I was a subcontractor installing DISH when they were still new. The company I subbed to sold the most units that year and helped push them to a million subscribers. The NW rep took us all to dinner at a nice seafood house and we all ended up with these.

I bought it at an old west auction that had a lot of Wells Fargo stuff in St. Louis Mo several decades ago when I lived there.

I have this portrait of Edward Somerset, 2nd Marquess of Worcester.

Purchased by John Higgins in 1929, stayed as part of the Higgins Armory collection and apparently briefly displayed at the Worcester Art Museum before being sold off in London in 2013.

Emerged again on the market this year.

Just hung it up on Sunday after buying my own scaffolding  and I didn't fall off.

What anchors?;i have several older paintings that need a home that centerlines don't match to studs

French cleats.

Holes every 4 inches.  Align with studs, add mediocre plastic anchors in remaining holes.  

I order lengths equal to the picture, move it left or right to align holes with studs, mark it, cut the excess, then mount to wall.

The picture I just posted hit three studs  which is great because it's heavy as hell.

Delidded i7 8700K that ran at 5.2 ghz at only 1.3 volts, 5.4 ghz at 1.4 volts. (AKA a top 1% chip).




She's retired to a display stand now.

I love the gothic tracery on the cabinet.  Is that a period piece or reproduction?  That's worth a photo in this thread, too.

I just read the history of the development of those rifles. VERY cool that you were able to get one.

That's a 19th century French single piece cabinet.  I think the two Turks that walked it into the house wish it was a two-piece.

It's an elaborate neo-gothic example, and a similar "original" from the 16th-17th century would probably be $40-60k.  So I can't say it's "original," but it is likely 1880s.

I like Arfcom because occasionally one out of a thousand people is like "what's that thing" while my friends and family say ridiculous things like "stop buying that" and "you're going to die cold and alone."
