Is there a  VERY HIGH Quality  garage/ Work-shop vacuum cleaner ?
Every   stanley- Black n Decker, ShOP-VAC  I have  ever owned has been shitty, short lived consumer grade garbage.
WHO makes  a GOOD shop Vac ?

I've been vacuuming drywall dust for 6 years in my Channel lock brand vac.  I believe it's a 12ish gallon model.
I use a filter and a bag in it attached to my powersander.
For my use, it's been good.
It'll probably die on the next job due to me posting about it though.

ETA: Earlier version of this model

I have this Prolux Garage Vac.

Mainly for detailing cars, but it is awesome for all shop vac needs.
Super nice for just keeping the floor clean.

Dry, wet.  30ft hose.
Like $300 if you get the demo unit

Wonder if they'll custom build me one with palladium motor windings ?

Another Ridgid fan boy.  Get the 16 gallon and don’t look back.   Watch sales ads at HD.  I got mine with the smaller optional 10’ flex hose for car interiors.

Use mine hooked up to a dust devil for sawdust collection when woodworking.

This one.

The handle is a new option since I bought mine.

My Craftsman won’t die.

I also have a smaller one from Harbor Freight I have been quite happy with although I haven’t had it nearly as long as the Craftsman.

You can find the boutique brands with SS canisters & such but they aren't any better than RIGID. We (commercial plumbers) (ab)use them shamelessly on job sites and even though we are eventually successful, it does take some effort to kill one. We usually just end up losing them piece by piece.

I have one in my shop I've been using since 2005.

Sorry, I can't help you with Tier 1 money since I only paid $100 for mine but on a positive note, I have been using it weekly for several hours since 2020 and it is still going strong. We ordered some for work as well.

Another vote for RIDGID. I have a large one with the big back wheels I bought for home use probably 20+ years ago. It’s been used in the garage and for multiple home remodel jobs. Seems like a tool that will last me a lifetime.

Does anyone else think the extra hose setups available at HD got chintzy?

There is a difference between a "shop vacuum" and a "dust extractor". The Festool as well as Bosch, Makita, Fein, and similar are dust extractors. Sure, they will work as a shop vacuum, but if you're using them to vacuum your car and your garage floor then it's kind of a waste. A good size Ridgid with a bag and filter will do all your general vacuuming needs as well as a lot of your dust extraction as well. There are HEPA bags and filters available. I use a bag and a blue filter on my Ridgid, as well as a cyclone separator when I'm sanding or doing other woodworking. The cyclone captures almost everything, with the bag and filter getting the extremely fine particulates.

Get a Ridgid.

In my experience they all perform poorly until you hit the 12 gallon level.

Rigid. I use it as a vac and not dust collection. With bags there is minimal pass through on particulate. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy again. Especially because purchase price was in the $125 range.

Festool is baller tier.

Then Flex. Not the gay ass US stuff, the Euro stuff.   Here: https://www.flex-tools.com/en/products/vacuum-cleaners-and-air-purifiers/safety-vacuum-cleaners/vc-21-l-mc

Then Fein.

Then be a poor.

Google commercial wet dry vacuum not shop vac but it really depends on what you are using it for if you are going more wet getting into commercial brands like tornado or powr-flite on the cheap end or advance Nss on the higher end are miles ahead in "handling" wet stuff they may lack a little in dust "filteration" collection area because they don't use those expensive pleated filters usually. Google janitorial or maintenance supply stores in your area. Once you have a commercial machine you will not look back and will never buy another wet dry vacuum because every part can be replaced not just thrown away. These stores will also sell hose by the foot and fittings so you can really customize what you want to fit your needs.

Ridgid with the removable motor.

I use the motor with the reduction nozzle to dry the motorcycles after washing them, or as a leaf blower or other similar duties.

IIRC, project farm's tests showed Dewalt on top and Rigid near the top.

I nabbed a Dewalt on a ~50% off overstock discount on Amazon...

The expensive Rigid model. The one that can turn into a corded leaf blower. I've used it for 10 years. I change the filter every couple of years and it keeps going.

This.  I have two that I use regularly.

I will admit that I also bought a 20 gallon Craftsman  recently because it was the largest volume I could find.  I use it to do the final drain when I clean my hot tub.

I'm still rock'n a Craftsman 3.5hp shop vac from the mid 80's.  Replaced the hose once during that time period.  I have replaced the filter maybe three times.  It will not die.
