I got a new rifle right before Christmas that I wanted to go test out.
took her up to the range and went to 25 yards to get on paper. Every time I pulled the trigger, in my head "buck-fifty, buck-fifty, buck-fifty" I got on paper and backed out to 100 and started on groups to see what this rifle was capable off. four five round groups later, I realized I had shot about 40 bucks worth of ammo and was just getting started. And worse, every time I pulled the trigger, I wasn't sure when or where I was gonna be able to get components to reload that case again. I have enough bullets for maybe 5-6 hundred loads, but who knows when I can replace that. It was painful. I finally switched to the .22 to get some more time on the trigger. The good news is the rifle shot amazingly. I was super happy. Especially with off the shelf ammo. I think I can do better with handloads when I get the time and financial courage to work up a load. |

I'd really like to practice with my new g19 and get good with the RDS on it, but 9mm ammo is unobtainium in my area...
I might take some blackpowder items out to the range, just to shoot a bit.

Speaking from experience. This is how shooting in a third world s hole feels like.
Pretty lucky...
LGS put in new state of art range. Will sell 9mm at 14.99-17.99/50 and .45 at 17.99-20.99/50 if you shoot there. I have enough, however, not shooting mine at our outdoor range for the those prices. Not sure how long his fort will last... |

I'm about ready to use this as an excuse to take up flintlock muzzleloading, personally.
Maybe pick up a 6mm Creedmoor. You can still get 6mm for normal price.
I'm going to go order another case of Prime for my HMR. Attached File |
The 50bmg crowd feels this pretty frequently.
Then again, we’re shooting 5 dollar bills. |
Took my oldest out early Saturday morning. Beautiful, sunny day with temps in the upper 30's and the sun to our backs.
Dusted off my .22 Hornet for the first time in almost a decade, son had his Savage 62f. Had a blast ringing steel a little past 100 yards. The little Hornet got some good groups too: Attached File I don’t really care what it costs, can't place a price on quality time with loved ones. Availability is a little concerning, but I've been able to stack .22LR pretty well the past few years. Doing 'ok' on most reloading components. |

i just came on to vent
seems to the resellers have found 15 just venting |

I got into shotgunning.
The trap/skeet range I go to is run by the state of missouri. $4 a round of 25. The sporting clays course is run by Illinois at the world shooting complex. $35 for a hundred. Both prices are pretty decent, imo I even bought a Yildiz 20 gauge for it. It does work on skeet. I think a 12 would have been better for sporting clays. Since it's winter and nobody else comes around, I like to go to the skeet range and just pick a station or 2, and just stay there for 25 rounds and just hammer it out |

Quoted: Wait until they try and ban military style ammo, etc. View Quote Yep, that's likely the route they'll take. I don't think they'll go for a full on ban or magazine capacity limit. No civilian ownership of 'military' calibers will be the compromise. They already do this in Europe and South America. ETA: And if legislation won't work, the SJW army will pressure the manufacturers to halt sales to civilians. Remember, Vista Outdoors is known to be left leaning and holds a large portion of ammo manufacturing in the US. |
Part of the plan it seems. What is the main hold up? Materials? How is daddy .gov getting their ammo?
This shit is whack. I pray it bounces back before the new legislation otherwise ammo is the new moonshine. |

Dry fire. Weapons manipulation drills. Airsoft.
Or just sell them all like I did. |

i dont think it bounce so quick
the reselling here has become an income source for some folk take a look at EE just venting just venting |

I trade a kidney for 6.5 PRC whenever I see it popup for sale

I feel pretty stupid myself. I stocked up on everything rifle and pistol over the years -- including rimfire.
But I neglected to stock on up #7.5 and #8 for sporting clays cuz in the back of my mind I figured they'd always be available. Now I can't go to the club to practice. |
It’s worse for some of us in states like AZ...I just drive 10 minutes on the other side of a mountain range, and shoot on BLM land. Went out twice this weekend.
Plinking better be for sighting-in.
Better save that ammo. The next round of [add your shtf scenario here] is brewing as I write this. Not a question of if, only when. |
Clays. Still plenty of #7.5’s and #8’s around for now at least.
You should have bought more ammo OP. I went to the range Saturday and Sunday. Blew through 200 rounds on Saturday and 250 on Sunday. Didn’t once consider the price of ammo. Maybe in a couple years when my stockpile dwindles I will. Everyone here’s has enough time to hoard ammo.
I've got >20,000 rounds of .22 LR (I know...amateur) and I hardly want to shoot that up.
My >4,000 rounds of 5.56? Fuhgeddaboutit. |
I get it. I have a good stash but, as always, you still want to replace what you use and ammo ain't too cheap these days...
@crashburnrepeat
Did I miss what your new rifle was chambered in? |
Sell everything. It will either be banned or prices will go down and you can buy back in. It's win win.
Shooting my 9 is costing me $1.50....per magazine. Dillon still goes brrrrr.
I still shoot but tend to prioritize ammo to things like dot torture and other drills, so I still get good practice but conserve ammo where I can. I've got plenty of ammo but I'm still trying to conserve it since it's not easy to replace right now.

I didn’t think we were supposed to shoot guns, just post pics.
My BIL has 8 cartridges of 243 left. His kid used one on a coyote this weekend so now 7. I told him last year to start buying but he didn’t. Told him again last weekend to buy it when he sees it. He didn’t seem interested just pissed. Even if I had some I wouldn’t share. Non voters are as bad as Libs and his wife is a Lib so 2 people not on my side. |

Pretty damn effective gun control, isn't it? [/qu yup for us poh people . lots of golf lessons this year maybe some salsa lessons maybe locksport more time in the woods trying to find my soul. verry little shooting. |

Quoted: @crashburnrepeat Did I miss what your new rifle was chambered in? View Quote @eracer 6.5CM and .260 Rem. I was shooting 6.5 Saturday. I have about 100 rounds of factory match and a lot of components. I'm shooting 6.5 cause my .260 cases are all small primer, and I have a lot more large rifle primers than small rifle primers. |
