I do except on those mornings when I really need to get done fast, then it's just a wet beard and a Gillette no cream, no soap no nuthing.  For all other mornings, it's a slower shave but much cheaper and when you take the time to slow down and do it right, it can actually be a relaxing start to the day.

I pretty much grew up with a str8 and now use a double edge. No soap out of a can (brush). I may use my Braun in a rush, but very seldom.

It doesn't get any better with a heavy, grey beard.

Badger shaving bush, and an older Old Spice shaving soap cup with a glycerine soap is all I ever use.  If time isn't an issue I'll use a safety razor also.

I have been using a brush, shaving soap, and DE razor for a few years now.  My skin feels so much better, it's a much closer shave, and the DE blades are much cheaper.  I like to try out the many different scents and brands of shaving soaps out there.   I really enjoy it and will never go back to canned shaving cream and disposable razors again.

Before I grew my beard out I made the switch to a DE razor and soap/brush.

Brush and soap daily for 10 years now. I like Mikes Natural Soaps but when I feel like being poor I use any glycerin soap in the soap isle of any supermarket.

I do.

Canned shaving cream sucks compare to a decent shaving soap, add in a decent brush and you have a much better lather without all the chemicals and to top it off it cost less.

Don’t knock it until she’s tried it, but since before I met her,
my wife has shaved the most important parts of her anatomy with a straight razor and mug foam. The results are basically the same as an expensive salon wax. And if you’re into such things, it makes it much more pleasant on the mouth compared to just a safety razor and canned cream. Never knew a woman who shaved there with a real razor before.

I’ll shave my face occasionally with her setup, but usually admit that I opt for “grocery store” products because I’m in a pinch for time to leave for work.

My buddy introduced me to it years ago, bought a brush and some different soaps, changed my life. I'm a big fan of the Proraso with menthol and eucalyptus.

Yes. Do it with cold water. It’s better. Don’t doubt me. You’re welcome.

So far so good. I think I need to get a bigger cup as the coffee cup I'm using to mix the soap doesn't allow me to get a good lather. The cup needs to be wider. Other than that I like it.

Go to the local multimart (walmart, target, etc) and pick up a rice bowl (or, just use a basic cereal bowl out of the cupboard).  This will work a lot better than a coffee cup.  The wider rim and sloped sides allow for a much better whip of the lather.

If you want to go all out, you can get a lathering bowl from one of the online shaving sources.  Some of these places have soap/cream samplers that will let you try different things.  When you do find the soap that is right for you, you will wonder why anyone uses the stuff in a can.

Hell even just using bar soap and lathering without a brush felt better than shaving cream.

Yes, bar and brush for maybe three years now.  Won't be going back to the can.

Yes. Changed over in about 2012, haven’t looked back. Also use safety razor with double edge blades. Occasionally use a straight razor; need to get it honed, though.

ETA: Sorry for posting again, forgot I already posted above. I’m serious about using cold water instead of warm. It’s better.

Cold water is good for preventing razor burn while rinsing the razor, but you gotta use warm water on your face before lathering up.

Soap and brush is seriously overrated. Modern shave gels and creams are far more effective at protecting and conditioning skin.  Using soap & brush is merely a trendy way to alter a routine chore. It's really just a symptom of boredom.

Better shave...is utter nonsense. I know this because I've tried soap&brush.

As for you paying less...more nonsense. A can of Edge shave gel cost me $2.97. Tell us your brand of shave soap.

These threads always make me marvel at the weird dichotomy of things, and how it doesn’t need to be that way.

There are modern shaving soaps that you apply with a brush that don’t require all the work, and you can still use modern razor blades.

It’s as if people only know two extremes, crappy pressurized shave foam or going full 1950s retro.

for you travelers or spouses there of, those fancy hotel French milled mini soaps deemed "Facial" are GREAT for shaving and cost NOTHING
high fat, high lanoline, just what you're paying 3 to 12 bucks for...and being a 1950s retro version. I like it

of course being in my 60's I don't need to shave as badly as I once did and I wear a goatee.
