Have any of you guys used this trick?

Im using a spectrum analyzer phone app and playing Pink noise. Do you want the signal to be completely flat or a little high on the bass?

I searched Google but cant get a straight answer.

any tips from guys that know what they are doing would be appreciated. My system sounds amazing to me but with all the tuning option on this thing I want to get the most out of it.

I have a Denon 7.2 receiver and its capable of the Audyssey auto setup but I dont have the mic (got it used for a great deal) Ill probably pick up a mic eventually.

Are you using a calibrated mic?  You can't get a flat response without knowing the response curve of the mic.  That's why I use the auto calibration system of my Pioneer.  They include a mic.

For a flat response for my sub, I used an SPL meter with correction values.  I can get into more detail if you want.

Im just using a spectrum analyzer app on my phone.

I guess I should get a mic so I can use the receivers auto calibration. I can get one for 40 bucks online.

If your serious about the calibration get the mic for the reciever,  dont trust the phone. Bass heavy or not depends on your taste. The goal is to have flat response so you hear things the way they were meant to be heard but you can tweak to your taste.
