I think this could be done by omitting "common words" from the search if searching for 2 letters.   No searching for "to" "or" "me", etc.   That's how vBulletin works, no 1 character searches, and no very common 2 letter terms, lets you find a lot of things if Admin enabled it.  It does bog the search query a bit on some, but those can be identified and added to the "too common" list.  Such as "AR"

I also think keyboard punctuation should be allowed, except for some database specific special symbols, not relying on javascript escaping of them.

Glock 17* and 10*22 should be used and find what you need.

I'll look at ways to simplify searching for smaller words, since most people dont take the time to figure out where the power of search lies. (Automate * insertion for example.) I can't give an ETA, but I'll see what I can do.
