I may catch some flak for this and by all means state your opinion....but there are many other sites that offer competitive prices in conjunction with free shipping. Other than the variety (with some calibers versus others) is it even worth going through SGAmmo and paying in excess of $16 shipping?

I still get the more peculiar and specific ammo I want - things that are sealed in spam cans or rounds that he has sealed/lacquered anywhere that are typically unsealed and poly coated from other vendors.
For range use, I go elsewhere for the bottom line. |

He still has some of the best prices on many items, and is my first spot when looking. If the money is close, I always go with SGAmmo. Most of the time if I find a better deal, it aint by much. Lately, those rebates have had be buying ammo at the weirdest places, like Academy and Cabelas.
Sometimes he gets stuff I can't find anywhere else and his prices are good on it.
The ADI 69gr for example. He had a few cases of it at .55/rd whereas the other place I found it had it .85/rd He gets some hard to find ammo. Sometimes he's the only one that has it. |
It's funny I created this thread. No less than an hour or so later, I saw SG listed several deals on Wolf Steel cased in various calibers. Although I despise sending money that way (Russia), I'm running an endurance test and wanted to push 1k .223 steel through my rig. Grabbed a case (1k) for 195 shipped which is the lowest I've seen.

I Still shop at SGAmmo. Good prices, excellent customer service and quick shipping
It's my go to 90% of the time. In fact I've spent $1500 there in the last few weeks. But sometimes PSA with free shipping gets me.
But the buy now before prices go up stuff gets a little old in all the emails. |
Less my recent 300blk ammunition purchase, SGAmmo gets all my business for all my calibers. Decent enough prices, quick shipping, but mostly because their a good family run business. Though located in Oklahoma, I don't hold that against them.
I still find SGA to have competitive prices and great CS.
I buy wherever is the cheapest, but SGA usually gets the nod if they are close. |

Between shipping costs and collecting tax (not their fault) I stopped ordering from them. Target Sports has gotten quite a bit of my money recently (free shipping, no tax).

SGammo is my go to.
Unless there’s a huge price difference, I’m not going to buy from anyone other than SG when we’re only talking a few dollars or so difference. SG always delivers fast with no issues. |
As others, only if I need something I can't find elsewhere. They used to be great, but prices are much more competitive these days.
The last order I did shipped the next day and was a a few bucks cheaper than anyone else.
I haven't ordered from them in a long time. Their shipping is usually a deal breaker. My last few ammo orders have been PSA deals with free shipping.
I buy pretty much everything from whoever has the best price when I need it. Sometimes its SGA, sometimes not. I usually get my Golden Tiger x39 from them.
Ask for a pen to be thrown in your order.....I’ve got one somewhere around here.
Sam's profit is only 5%. I don't fault him for charging for shipping
I usually just buy ammo wherever I can find it cheapest. It's rarely SG ammo, but if you find something from them that happens to a good deal, they are gtg.
Go wherever offers the best value! SG or not. That benefits all of us...
Most of my ammo comes out of Stillwater, OK. Sam runs a helluva business, as far as I’m concerned. Couldn’t be happier with their service!
Well they won't ship to NY and Target sports will so.....guess where my money goes. And a bunch of their buddies. And a bunch of their buddies buddies...
I'm happy to hear there are plenty of you guys who feel the same way....
It's rare where when shipping is included, I'm still getting a large deal. But again this is only because he has overstock of the Wolf steel stuff. Otherwise yeah, deal breaker. Most companies have things worked in with a shipping agency of their choice and can therefore bring a reduced shipping cost. I think SG is banking on most of the shipping cost + the rumored 5%. Either way, it's the way he wants to do business as you all have said. |
Sam is the man. He's helped me a ton, especially in the 7.62x39mm area. I won't hesitate to recommend him. But I do buy from PSA, Targetsports USA, Midway USA, Brownells, etc. I test so much ammo, I buy from whoever has what I need as long as the price is always close to others

I always buy from SG. Family owned, and I actually really appreciate and read their newsletter. Always within ~5 bucks from anywhere else and definitely don't mind sending my business their way.
I normally find the best prices through target sports prime. Steel case .223 is $183/k delivered right now.
I still check PSA and SGAmmo, but it's normally cheaper at Target Sports. |
SG has very fast shipping, an easy to navigate web site, good prices, and has never screwed up my order.
Yeah, I might be able to save a few bucks by hunting around, and risk the above good qualities. At my point in life I'll pay extra for quality and reliability over cheapest out there. People want the absolute cheapest price, then complain about service quality. You can't get Wal-Mart prices and old school Sears service. |
I think the fast shipping is subjective and dependent on where you live. My orders have never shipped as quickly as what you guys are saying. And on the flip side I don't order from uncertain sources either.
SG is a great vendor but I haven’t bought from them in a couple months for exactly the reasons you’ve listed.
"Specialty" ammo, yes. Bottom line range ammo, no. Places offering free shipping for the same product at the same price point vs SG with shipping, I'll take the free shipping option. Capitalism and all that.

I will happily pay a few extra bucks for shipping to get the quality of customer service they provide.

My Walmart is cheaper for 9mm...which is what I shoot the most.
Meh, just recieved a bunch of .44 Special and Mag from them. Prices were reasonable, and I've used them for awhile.

I dont use them much anymore.
Prices and shipping are usually less elsewhere. |

Target sports for me lately. Good prices, free shipping, and no tax yet. I always check sgammo though.

I almost never pay for shipping. I always try to find deals with free shipping. I can't remember the last time I ordered from SG.
