Longer handles keep your fingers from being pinched by a scope.  The Ruger American has a 60 deg bolt throw, which helps, but moving the point of contact for the bolt hand farther away from the scope is a good thing.

It also gives you more leverage on the handle.  Personally, I like extended bolt handles with larger, smooth knobs for rifles where I may actually want to run the action fast for a follow up shot.

The Glades Armory bolt handle, on the other hand, is a MUST have, IMO.

I've got mine set up as a simple general-purpose rifle. I really like it as it is.

@zardoz

Why is the GA handle a must have?  I’m debating getting it, but I dont know how it’ll improve anything.  Educate me.

Edit.  I picked up a second one yesterday.

Much bigger and cost about 1/2 of what Anarchy bolt handles cost.

Factory vs Glade's 1.75″ black anodized tactical knob bolt handle.

Anyone have this piece?

Its expensive compared to the price of the entire rifle.  I’ll get one, if / when the OEM breaks, unless its highly recommended.

I believe somewhere within these 8 pages the billet cocking assembly has been mentioned.

And worth every penny, as I said earlier in the thread, I have a Ranch in .450 Bushmaster, before I replaced the cocking piece and bolt handle I measured trigger pull with it averaging 3.5-4 lbs over 6 or so pulls, after the  work was done I got a consistent 2 1/4 lbs pull over 6 pulls.  I did the same mods to my American  22" .308  I'm a cheap bastard, but that, was money well spent.

next mod is stiffening up the stocks by filling the voids with epoxy.

I scored a "New/ Old Stock" 5.56 RPR off GB for less than what I've seen some "used" ones selling for a couple weeks ago. Shocked really. I happened to look that morning and one was listed.

Haven't had the chance to get range time with it yet.

Heck, I started this thread, decided I was going to get one, they all dried up for a while, ended up going a completely different route and bought a short barreled Uintah upper, and I've not had a chance to try that yet.

I really really wanted a Predator in 6.5 Grendel - wanted it for a steal - then the gun market went crazy - ended up with a 5.56 Ranch just so I can get some shooting in and not kill the wallet.

The models that use AR mags come from the factory with a 10 round mag.

Roger that. Thanks

I guess I was wondering if they would function with a shorter 5-round magazine

A true 5 round mag should work fine. An American mag well is much shallower than an AR mag well.

Anarchy.  I looked at Glades as well, but they had a couple negative reviews and I actually thought their bolt handle was too long for my tastes.

Impulse bought one in 6.5 CM back in Dec 21 for $500 cash, new in the box. A few mods and I'm very happy with it - although, feeding it can be a problem!

Same exact results with mine that I picked up for my daughter.

But also with the savage axis in .30-06 I picked up. Both Walmart clearance deals.

Unless you really truly need to downsize, why sell?  I have a T/C Compass in .308 I picked up on an impulse buy.  It was on sale AND had a T/C rebate.  I paid about $200 for the rifle total, once my rebate arrived.

It's reliable and far more accurate than one would expect from such a cheap rifle.  On par with Ruger American accuracy.

It's a homely rifle, which I slightly improved with a DIY sponge camo paint job on the stock, but it just sits in my safe sighted in with some of my .308 165 gr hand loads.

Loaner rifle, camp rifle, truck rifle, foul weather rifle, etc. - plenty of uses for an accurate, reliable but inexpensive bolt action rifle.

Good price.  I bought the same rifle a couple months back for almost $100 more.  I pretty much knew this was going to happen.  Not a big deal.  I'm enjoying the rifle and it's only money that's worth less and less every day.

I took my bolt apart and removed the firing pin on my 300blk Ranch...... now I can't get it back together.

Bolt tool from Anarchy Outdoors just showed up in the mail. Hopefully that will help me. And for the record, not beer involved.

I took my bolt apart and put it back together with the new parts.

The tool from Anarchy Outdoors is borderline useless.  Yes I have one, yes I used it.  I had to resort to a screwdriver instead of the bolt tool.  No beer involved and I watched a couple of YouTube videos while I did it.  The tool is not that helpful.

Tired of waiting on Magpul....I went ahead and bought an Indian chassis. Only 1lb 4oz so it should keep it pretty handy.

Will probably be adding a law tact folder so I can stuff it in my vertx bags.

Optics will be a PA 1-6 and thermal for night blasting.
Should be a light, fun rifle.

Indian Creek has their own folding carbine-interface adaptor that looks pretty good http://www.indiancreekdesigninc.com/shop-online/side-tracking-folder-unit-stfu

Let us know how you like the Indian chassis. I'm strongly considering one. The fact they are manufactured fairly close to me is pretty neat.

Almighty mods of GD: @DK-Prof @Aimless @Subnet @guns762

This thread is something of a unicorn in GD.

It's about guns, it's been active for several months, it's 8 pages long, there's good information inside and, while some difference of opinion are voiced, no one has been called a Commie or a Liberal (yet).

Is it possible to toggle this thread so it doesn't slip into the archive?

As I work through handloads in my RAR I plan to keep updating.  But my fear is later this summer when I have time to do some testing, this thread will be gone.

Possible?

If the rear sight was lower profile (more like an XS or Skinner aperture) or it was somehow flip up/flip down, I think it would be easier to mount a scope in low/medium QD rings.

I'd upgrade mine in that case.

As it is, I think these sights look quality (and from everything I've read, they are GTG) but I'd need to mount a scope too high for my taste.
