I pulled the plug on 01/31/23 after 25 years in law enforcement. I worked patrol and traffic for three years. I was an FTO, Taser instructor, firearms instructor, department armorer and in Peer support. I also worked at the state's police academy for two years at the same time. It was a fun ride, but it was time to get off. I can already feel the stress going away. I highly recommend it to everyone else.

Woo-Hoo! Welcome to the club! I am also a new retiree, having pulled the pin on 12/31/22.  I am so busy doing what makes me happy that I don't know how the hell i ever managed with a full time job.

Congrats.  Fixing to hit my 25th year in 24 days.  Trying to last it out until my kids are out of the house.  Not sure I'll make it though!  I'm so fed up with admin BS.

Doing the same thing. Congrats on making it. May you live to a 100.  You want the pension section bitching every month because they have to cut a check for that O'l SOB hker71!
I do get a little melancholy sometimes thinking about all the people I worked with over the years that died and never made it to retirement - 9/11 alone is a M'fer.   I did go out with a little style, last day was 2/3/23 with 23 years of service

Did you not get set up on career #2 before you retired?

Cool. You know, you probably have enough experience to become a security guard. Might check out what the requirements are in your state.

It's always good to hear about people who get out the other side clean and get to enjoy their well-earned retirement.

Punched out after 20 in October myself. It is an adjustment for sure, but it is good to feel normal again, not as much gloom and doom. Too young to permanently retire, but I am looking for a low key, low stress job to go with my pension. Not having to go to work completely changes your out look on work life balance.

Thank you to everyone who has posted kind words. Congratulations to those who already pulled the plug or are about to pull the plug. I think the time was definitely right. Well it is going on two months of retirement and I am really enjoying being out of the job. I am about to go back to work for a major firearms company which has their line of products manufactured near me. I'll get to see what working for private industry is going to be like as opposed to government work. LOL!
