Where I grew up in the Midwest every man wore a cheaply made mesh-backed hat with a big ass panel front. Reagan was president and times were good and a man’s hat usually matched the beer he drank. They were walking billboards for their beer. My dad worked a 9-5 job in a suit and played on a bar-sponsored softball team with his buddies after work. Off came the suit and on went the Miller’s hat. You earned bonus points if your brim was flat in the center and angled on the sides. Beer was cheap and when you worked on a car with your friends it was either a six-pack job or a twelve-pack job. Those were good times.

Most people look back on their childhood fondly because they were hopefully oblivious to the issues of the real world.

I edited the title since that seems to be the consensus on what they’re called. Us kids wore them too so we didn’t affiliate them with truckers. Either way they were awful.

I think if a company logos hats they should always offer a trucker mesh hat option.

Not a trucker hat, but this was my favorite growing up. Grandad gave it to me, and I wore it just about every day. Nobody batted an eye at an 8 year old wearing a chewing tobacco hat.

As we always bought CAT equipment for the family company and there was a Goodyear plant in town back then before they moved it to Mexico

Goodyear had some good ones and not surprisingly, Peterbilt had some great trucker hats too.

It was a great era back then.  They were as someone mentioned previously, a walking billboard.  Men wore the hats of the products they used.
