He changed the way I understood the bible in almost every way imaginable.

I heard him lecture at Christ Pres. here in Nashville about 25 years ago.

Great guy.

RIP, sir.

Several friends of mine were also friends of his. There were daily updates on his condition on FB & then the announcement today.

You can't go wrong with any of his books, but his Holiness of God is unparalleled.

I used to stumble upon his lectures on the radio before I was a believer. Even then he held my attention, and I'd have to listen until it ended. I always came away feeling like I had learned something. I think often about the things I heard that man say.

"Known to millions of Christians as simply 'R.C.,' he was used of the Lord to proclaim, teach, and defend the holiness of God in all its fullness. Through his teaching ministry, many of us learned that God is bigger than we knew, our sin is more deeply rooted than we imagined, and the grace of God in Jesus Christ is overwhelming," the ministry said.

It was the same when my dad passed.  We were sorry he was no longer with us but we were joyful that he was home.  I don't believe l have ever seen a more joyful funeral in my life.

Even in passing dad taught me one more valuable lesson. We knew beyond a shadow of a doubt where he went.  Someday l hope l can leave that feeling of certainty to my heirs.

I used to hook up my phone to the truck radio, cue up renewing your mind radio archives and drive for ten hours binge listening.
Then I'd be sad, because I had to wait for a couple weeks to let them accumulate.
I felt the same way when Ron Nash passed.

"You can grieve for me the week before I die, if I’m scared and hurting, but when I gasp that last fleeting breath and my immortal soul flees to heaven, I’m going to be jumping over fire hydrants down the golden streets, and my biggest concern, if I have any, will be my wife back here grieving. When I die, I will be identified with Christ’s exaltation. But right now, I’m identified with His affliction."

Presbyterian Church (USA) is part of Reformed Church in America, correct? There are three PC(USA) churches in my general area, including the church I was baptized at, and they are all doing poorly. My own church can't even afford a part-time secretary to help take the load off the part-time pastor. They have one service a week. They will shutter their doors soon.

A few miles south of me is a brand new, gigantic Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) church that is busting at the seams. The have something like 8-10 services a week, multiple pastors, a band, Sunday school, the whole nine yards. Every Sunday the parking lot is filled to the brim.

It's clear the liberal stance adopted by PC(USA) is not paying off. It's having just the opposite effect. But the more conservative PCA church is standing room only.

That leads me to believe that liberals don't need church and by adopting liberal policies, PC(USA) is pandering to people who by and large don't go to church. Smart move. Personally, I've given up on PC(USA), even though technically I'm still a member.

That I don't know.  As I've always understood it, "reformed" is used to designate the Calvinist churches, e.g., the Dutch reformed church, the German reformed church, etc.  The German reformed churches joined with the Congregationalists in the 1960s (I believe) to form the United Church of Christ.  The UCC is in terrible shape, thanks to liberalism.

Great video.  Do Presbyterians or Calvinists normally talk about Luther as much as Dr. Sproul?

As a Lutheran, I've rarely heard pastors mention John Calvin.  I know that Luther and Calvin disagreed on some major points.

Actually, based on my reading they agreed on most of the important stuff.  They held a slightly different view on the Lord's Supper. I am an ardent Calvinist, and I frequently use Luther when I teach.
