So I've been on a sort of AR work-on binge the past week or so. My AR does what I want it to do, but I wanted to post what I've got and see what people have to say:

Here is my current setup down to every nitty gritty. Let me know if this sounds good:

Bushmaster Lower receiver and grip (standard config)
Geissele SSA trigger
BCM milspec receiver extension/buffer tube - staked in place
Magpul MOE stock (basic)

Colt 6920 Upper receiver
Colt 6920 BCG (complete and with staked gas keys)
Colt 6920 Charging Handle

16" Criterion 1/8 twist barrel
BCM Midlength gas tube and roll pin
Low Pro Gas Block
Troy 13" Free Float Mlok Battle Rail -Black
Trijicon 4x ACOG
A2 Birdcage Compensator (flashhider)
NO fixed front sight post

All magazines are Lancer L5AWMs in both 30 and 20 round varieties

No sling, as of yet. Working on that.

So is this a decent setup?

Decent setup but you’re gonna be loved tenderly for Troy

Looks good. I would swap that MOE for something that has a QD like a B5 or CTR.

Now that I'm shopping for slings, this actually just occurred to me today. What do you recommend? I'm thinking about the Vickers Blue Force Sling, btw.

Troy hired one of the federal snipers involved at Waco, and at one point had an anti gun instructor

Troy hired ex FBI sniper that murdered civilian at Ruby ridge.
Been taking heat for it for years on this board.
Great choice on sling.
Overall a good rifle.

If you've ever pulled guard duty you'd find out the A2 grip absolutely destroys your wrist.  Might want to consider replacing it with something like a magpul that doesn't have such a steep angle.  Cheap to replace too.

Yeah, I picked it up before I was aware of that fact. Anyway, it was the last rail the shop had available, so I wouldn't have had much choice anyhow.

Sounds like a workable setup with good guts. There's nothing wrong with the Troy rail.

You do need that sling and a light too if you have HD/SD in mind.

Yes. This is next on my to-do list. I don't have large hands, but I do think I would like a slightly beefier grip than the A2 grip.

Aga hit sling

2-1 transition type with either push button or a blue force pull knob

Looks like the 1” mk 2 is in stock for black and OD and the 1.5” mk 4 (mine, with a mash hook) is still in stock for coyote brown.

Long gun kit has knurled attachment knob, pressure switch with plastic mount brackets and a selectable switch lockout. With in-stock options still out there of getting a remote/mom switch backplate, etc.

Get a more vertical pistol grip, magpul for a more traditional angle, B5 or BCM for something more vertical.

BCM Mod 3, my personal favorite

Get a better CH, Geissele ACH, Radian, are great low profile choices.

Geissele ACH Tan, in stock, my first choice

Radian Raptor-LT, for the operator on a budget, my second choice.

I know people hate on it but get something better than an A2 birdcage. If you aren't getting a suppressor mount, then get something like a Vg6 brake, not too expensive and they work great. The Gamma is the best performing IMO, just don't get the short 2 chamber version as the top has more ports to make up for loss of a third blast baffle and can get uncomfortably bright sometimes. The 3 chamber version doesn't have this issue.

VG6 Gamma 556 SL in stock

TLR is fine, need that sling too for basics.  Then you might wanna think about armor, abdomen and head and night vision and all the expense that brings.  Save up, it's not as bad as it looks at the beginning.

Agreed good list, but man I hope you got ammo before.

The MOE stock is good but you’ll want a stock with a QD mount. I like the B5 bravo generally and the magpul MS1 sling. Also replace the A2 grip. Magpul MOE+ is a nice cheap option.

Okay, idk why it didn't work the first time round. Just ordered it with the QD swivel loop.

How tricky can I expect this sling to be set up?

Still gonna order a Blue Force Vickers sling so I can compare.

I don't think so. IIRC, the CTR stock can be retro'd with a QD socket.

For the MOE stocks you'll need something like this:

https://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/qd-rotation-limited-buttstock-sling-mount-n-slot/

Works with any stock with a sling webbing slot.

Have you used that? Is it pretty solid? On the order page now. Man, yesterday and today have been expensive days, lol.

And to the person who asked in this thread. Yes, I have several hundred rounds of 5.56.

I haven't, but have been on the fence between this or a QD end plate for my wife's rifle. My go to wears a B5 Sopmod, so I've already got QD sockets.

Its also sold by LaRue on their website FWIW. I would assume that its a decent product if Mark is carrying it and not making his own.

Now that I think about it. How many rounds of ammo is enough? I currently have probably close to a thousand of 5.56. I know there are people who will say there is no such thing as enough. But really though. As a note, I do like to shoot frequently when I can. So I would imagine that I would need alot more. Currently searching for good sources to maintain my supply.

"enough" is totally subjective.  Personally I would not be looking to buy ammo in this market.  Otherwise the "right" answer is as much as you can afford.  Ammo doesn't go bad, and it behaves a lot like a commodity in terms of pricing fluctuations - so buy when it's low in order to still shoot when it's high.

ETA: this is exactly why bulk online ordering of ammo is such a favored "thing".

Last thing on my shopping list. So I'm looking for a new grip. The problem is I want something with a slightly larger swell. When shooting AR pattern rifles, the trigger has always been deep, at the second knuckle of my trigger finger (counting from the tip). I would like it to be less deep and closer to the tip for slightly more controlled trigger manipulation. So that would imply a slightly larger grip swell, I would imagine. I would also prefer FDE. My rifle is all black, and I initially wanted to do black receiver with FDE furniture. But times being what they are, my only option for the rail was black. I can still go for a FDE grip and stock I guess, hoping that won't look too weird. Honestly, I kinda wanted to go for a unique scheme, and FDE is getting kinda common, lol. Willing to change that up.
