It seems to have only hit the news in places like Colorado and Arizona, but my Google skills are weak, so it may already be more widespread.
If you have any current or future needs for propane tanks of any size, it may be a good idea to purchase them now. Take a look at the selection of propane tanks in your local big box stores and report back. |

No shortages if price meets demand. In before the calls of "muh gouging" by people that don't believe supply chains, leftism, and inflation don't be like it is, but it do.
Buckle up and expect shortages of everything that can be counted as a necessity to inflate first. |

Plenty of 80, 250, 500 and 1,000 gallon tanks in the northeast.
20 pounders are for poors. |

We just got a letter from our supplier that we aren't using enough and will be charged an extra $100 per year for tank rental. They just took $50. I have no choice until winter is over to change suppliers.

I have a trailer I pull a 2000 pounder with me to run my stove when I tent camp. It’s also handy to pull it to my hunting blind. I had one I painted camo, but one of my buddies shot it when he thought he saw a deer. |

I bought my own 100 gal tank and got rid of the rental that was already at my house.

The local gas companies are charging waaay too much for tank rental. I take my 100 pound tank to the local filling station once a month instead.

Local 7/11 stopped doing tank exchanges this week. Must be related

I have a 20 pound tank that in need to swap out with a new one because it’s hydro test is out.
I have about 8 tanks total. 3 need to be filled and normally I do that at BJs. I guess I should take care of that before the price goes crazy. |

I bought 6 30lb cylinders

Don't know about tanks but there is no propane stove small cylinders or 20 lb cylinders/swaps/refills in southeast bam bam. I'm not sure about the big companies like empire gas or amerigas and if they're getting enough to keep the home tanks filled, but there ain't shit for sale in the 20lb or less arena.

Gas station near me was out of tanks last week, but the Walgreens across the street was full up.

Yep: called the closest HD to get a couple of bottles...OOS.
Called next nearest HD and they had 6. When I arrived 10 minutes later they had one left. Decided to check propane torch bottle just in case...OOS. PHX. |

I tried finding some 30 or 40 pound cylinders a week ago and the propane place said they were completely out of them. I seem to go though 20's pretty fast on my grill and wanted a slightly larger tank.

Glad I turned all mine over last year. I think all but one was out of cert so I did them all.
Wonder why there is a shortage? |

View Quote I have 6 tanks that I use for grilling, boiling, and weed burning. Now that I diagnosed my leaky regulator on my grill, my propane consumption is pretty minimal. My pellet grill gets the most use. Don't tell anyone, or we will be having a peak 40lb pellet bag thread. |

Wife and I have been so close to ordering a 1k gallon tank and having it installed in the ground behind our house.
We only use gas for our fireplace and tankless water heater, but we plan on adding a whole house generator in the future too. Want to be able to live off grid for months rather than days (already have well and septic). Anyone ever had a large tank installed underground? Our covenant requires large tanks to not be seen from the road and don't want a 1k gallon tank up against my house. |

I haven't been past this company since before Christmas, but they had at least several hundred tanks of various sizes. They make 120 to 2000 gallon tanks.

One of the largest manufacturers of Propane tanks in the US is located about 20 miles from me.
The are pretty busy. |

I noticed this about 3 weeks ago when I bought a buddy heater. The green 1# tanks were sold out everywhere. It was quite an effort to round up 7 of them.

luckily i stacked them wide and deep while they were cheap, so im set.

I saw a dozen semis hauling various sizes of new tanks this weekend.

Two places I shopped at both had the same policy of charging $100 for tank rental if you didn't use enough gas. Seemed like SOP to me. They gotta make a certain amount from a customer to make the business work. Either pay it in the margin of the gas itself, or pay it on the tank. |

Local propane place had plenty. Road fuel propane for my pickup was 99.5 cents a gallon after tax.

i went to do an exchange and they were out.
The local uhaul refills bottles so I went that route. |

Be able to heat the home and cook that way. Also putting the dryer on propane but it still requires electricity. I chose not to add my water heater because it requires a long horizontal powered vent that would have been $2k installed, and the vent won't run without electricity so it's a moot point in any case. Eventually I'll run a line from the tank to my outdoor kitchen for the propane grill and griddle. There is no substitute for fuel capacity, 1k is the way to go. Looked at going with an underground tank, moved away from it for a few reasons. Cost is around $6k for the tank and hole. You own the tank, anything goes wrong and you start writing checks. We found a 1k tank lease for $12 a year too good to pass up. We'll hide the tank with landscaping. Very much looking forward to cooking breakfast with gas! |
