Busy tearing the dash out of my daughter's Jeep a second time, after the brand new heater core I just put in there decided to leak.

I actually thought of the metal dash in your S-10 and was halfway tempted.....

Dash removal sucks in anything.

A nice brushed aluminum dash would look cool

Went to the track Friday and Saturday.
Friday was test and tune and I blew the radiator cap up.

Got things figured out Saturday morning with the help of a drag bike buddy.

Entered the "box" class.
My passes were: 5.99, 5.95 and the a 5.83.
I ended up red lighting and ran a 5.78 so I would have broke out.

Gratuitous pic of the front end coming up

You got the jump on him alright!

Having done both, I can tell you falling asleep at the light hurts more.

I definitely wasn't sleeping
The car crept forward just a tad. I think I let off the brake pedal a touch sooner than getting on the transbrake

Taking the S10 to the track tomorrow for some test and tune.

Cross your fingers for no issues.
I'll get some GoPro I hope.
Not sure how many passes I'll get but, we'll see.

Needs to try and get some bugs worked out of the tune.

Speaking of cutting good lights, the very first time I went down a dragstrip (National Trail Raceway in Ohio)

I cut a .700 light. My buddy who had been racing for a few years asked me "when did you leave?"

I said on the green. He said "LOL you are waaay late, leave on the last yellow" (.500 sportsman's lights)

He explained to me why that is, my reaction time + car reaction time etc..

Next pass I left when I saw the last yellow light up. Cut a .510! Next pass I cut a .501!! Next pass...redlight.

I did learn when to leave though and was cutting good lights from then on.

This was in 1984. Damn I'm old.

It's doing much better than it was but like VRM said it needs a new tune with the spool.

I have a 5.3 waiting on the engine stand for my 66 Caprice.   I have a factory PCM and a factory harness,  but I'm reading great things about the Holley system versus HP Tuners.

Holley is a little more performance driven HP Tuners is towards the "stock" side.

Granted, HPT can get you fast but you don't have to be connected to the car to tune it. The SD card comes in handy.

Keep me/us updated on the swap please

Getting the new Holley Terminator X slowly dialed in.
Spools up slow but I knew it going in.
This pass was a 7.51/103.09 MPH

Sounds like you’re not hitting full boost until just before the shift. That engine and turbo should be spoiling faster than that, because I know you’re not running 20+ psi.   What cam?

That whining isn't the turbo.
This was a foot brake race so I was trying to be consistent and starting without building any boost and trying to hold the brakes.

Not talking about the whine. At about 1:08 sounds like the wastegate is fully open, which would mean you are at whatever your peak boost is. It starts opening a little earlier.

Are you running just spring pressure?

Plus you have the Holley now, wire up an input and setup a 2step. Build boost while foot braking it. I have the 2step setup in my car kind of soft and can build 5-7lbs in neutral.  Something is better than nothing.

I'm going to work on that soon.
The dragster is in the garage right now so it's hard to climb around in the S10 while it's in the trailer.

It's a TCI that came with the transmission. Bought it from a friend about 3 years ago but I forget offhand the number.

One tailored for your application will probably help your times quite a bit. FWIW my 01 Z28 with just a catback and a ported throttle body ran 8.6 @ 85 when it was like 100 degrees out. Now I have a FTI triple disk billet 4000 hard hit and my buddy has a billet 4000 Circle D in his LQ9 swapped 89 Formula with a TH400.

Working with my tuner guy in NC. We're setting up the MAC valve for the boost control.

Since racing is done here I have to sneak it out and make a pass in a commercial part of town not far from the house.
