I've seen the SSDs just dropping in huge numbers now (price-wise).
1 TB is like $150 now? Rediculous. I don't feel though like any of my Steam games take too long to launch with a 7200 HDD, I mean I (like most of us) grew up in the win95 and 98 days of launching games and you went and got another coke from the fridge while you waited. But at some point I'll just switch over to SSDs permanently. |

My "gaming rig" is not exactly cutting edge but it's a very solid workstation.
Intel workstation chassis (forget the model number) Intel S5520SC workstation motherboard 24 GB ECC DDR3 RAM 2x Intel Xeon W5590 3.3 GHz quad core processors 2X 2GB HDs 2X 1 GB HDs 1KW power supply 2X gigabit ethernet ports Windows 7 Professional No RGB lighting of any kind. Added cards: GTX 950 video card 802.11a wifi card USB 3.0 card National Instruments PCI GPIB (IEE 488.2) card It's a general purpose workhorse. Not the fastest thing on the block but it's enough to run every game I currently play at its absolute max settings with a framerate above 60 FPS in the worst case scenario. That's more than sufficient for me. |

Some bad ass rigs in this thread. My 1070ti is currently being bottlenecked by a Phenom II x4 so I've just ordered all new components less vga and psu. Went AMD in anticipation of 3000 series ryzen possibly being pretty good.

Pleasantly surprised because it was less than a grand to put together. |

The 9900k was recently on sale for less than it’s ever been priced so I decided I would pull the trigger on it. It runs pretty hot and although it had served me well these last 7 years, my old C70 case wasn’t the best solution to keep a beast of a CPU like the i9 cool. I ended up pulling my GPU and SSDs from my C70 and transplanting it into a new Corsair Obsidian 500D. I'm not a big fan of RGB all the things so I picked a case and components that had some sleekness to them.

Building a new gaming pc for the first time in several years.
Wanting to benchmark the old pc and new pc for comparisons sake. 3dmark the way to go or is there something else I should use to compare two completely different systems? |

Bit late to this, but in answer to the question on how the computer case had moving images on the side window:
An LCD panel was used - LCDs themselves are fairly transparent, and are backlit to provide the image on your computer screen. Placing just the panel itself in a windowed computer case is possible, and lighting the inside of the case would allow you to see images displayed on the screen. That screen could be treated as a separate monitor by the operating system, or controlled by custom software. There are even manufactured computer cases with this. Mike |

Still running my Haswell build from 2014, only upgrades being an RTX 2070, Thermaltake View 71 case, and two 24" 1440p Dell IPS G-Sync displays - (144hz is the shit)
Will be putting together a new rig for Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft Flight Sim 2020, and DCS in the spring. Question for you guys - should I keep the 2070 or upgrade to a 2080 / ti? |

View Quote I wouldn't go with the 2080ti unless prices came down/you got a good deal on one, or you've just got the money burning a hole in your pocket. I think the price/performance ratio is a little disproportionate, especially with the 2080 Super and what it can do. |

I just finished my first real build! While I still have some work to do on the rig I'm very happy with the results. Now if I could just figure out why my Odyssey+ keeps black screening after 20-40 mins I'd be stoked.

Plan to add a 1tb SSD, 2tb HDD and possibly upgrade to a 3600 cpu in the near future. Or a R7 3800 in the not so near future.... A RTX 2060 or better is also in the plan. First is a modular PSU so I can free up the 3.5" drive bay in the case though. As this one is upgraded the old parts, CPU, 2600, 256 M.2, etc will be repurposed into a Plex server and/or DVR for security cams. |

I first posted in this thread almost 7 years ago when I began this PC build, but I see the photos were lost to Photobucket. It's still running strong, but definitely getting a little out dated. When I put it together, Skyrim was the main game I was looking to play. Really the only newer game I play is COD: MW, which obviously runs on much lower settings. Looking to start phasing out and replacing parts from this build rather than an entire new build. I've been really impressed with how problem free it has been. It's seen a lot of use over the last 7 years, and the only issue I've had is losing the scroll wheel click on the mouse.
