Yep.  Interesting read on the topic:

Mold Study

That said, small amounts of white mold like that I would brush off and smoke with no worries.  If it's on the foot, I chuck it.

@bb

Plume is different than mold is one of those things people used "to know", like "they knew" stopping power was a real thing. Aka - anecdotal evidence only. Friends of Habano's (a well known online cigar vendor for cubans) decided to test that theory. They had a lab test a bunch of different cigars. All of them were mold, none of them were the mystical plume. They have a standing invite to be proven wrong, just send your stogie in and they'll test it.

So this is based on a study with a sample size of 10 cigars?

As opposed to the sample size of... folksy wisdom?

Those are the choices we've got right now, actual scientific experiments performed in a laboratory on a limited sample size vs old wives tales. If you're holding out on an exhaustive study of thousands of cigars from around the world to change your mind.... we'll both be dead before that happens. If you want to go on believing plume is a real thing with no scientific evidence to support that, at all. Then I won't stand in your way.

Word.

They’ve done a few more than 10, and have asked for people to send in cigars that are the best example of showing the mythical “plume.”   They detail this in the post on the FoH page, but when tested - spoiler alert - it always comes back as mold.

It is what it is.   If it ain’t green or on the foot, wipe it off and light it up.

I got a few Padron Family Reserve Maduros recently that had some wrapper sparkle like that.  Some of the best cigars I've ever lit.

Shot this video yesterday. Need full screen @ 720p to see it sparkle. Very difficult to capture.
