When you go to the eye doctor, do you get an Optomap type image taken of your retinas?

To me, at least, it seems like a good way to check for other possible health issues.

Found Histoplasmosis in me. So yeah...

Yes, because it helps my doctor keep tabs on possible damage due to my diabetes.

Dilation is 75 bucks cheaper than optimap at my place.  I used to do optimap but for the last 3 times just had them dilate instead.

Modern medicine is pretty cool sometimes.

Not blinking is hard though, usually takes 4-6 "pictures" to get both eyes.

FIL is an optometrist. He does optimal and has shown me some of the things it can catch as well as monitor. It’s a cool tech.

Had mine done yesterday.

It was $35 out of pocket.

My eye doc got a new machine like just 6 weeks ago.

He showed me some pics...yes...histoplasmosis was one of them...diabetes was another...macular degeneration was another.

I think the last time I was at the eye doc was in 2015.

His old machine took the retina pics back then.

I am 46, and just recently found the brass headstamps even harder to read.  Also, trying to read the ingredients on the back of some food boxes/containers was difficult to.  I bought some +1.50 cheaters, and the font just jumps right out now.

The eye doc wrote me two different scripts yesterday.  One was for reading, basically

The other was for far stuff...and I guess the lenses would just transition to near... I guess...Like a no line bifocal... I guess.

I have had a cotton wool spot that we looked at with this tech.

Increased my BP med and a couple years later it's faded out.

They'll probably take a pic once a year now.

It's not just the image, it's the baseline image.

Their computer compares subsequent updated images to your baseline image and looks for anything new.

This is some truly cool shit.
