The story so far: Westerville Ohio (suburb of Columbus) police find a dude passed out in a car from a drug overdose. They (Westerville police) take him to a hospital to be treated for the OD. They find out he has a warrant for domestic violence. They call the city police who issued the warrant. Columbus police show up to take custody. Oops, dude had a gun, sorry about that. Shootout in the ER. Dude dead. Protesters angry, 50-60 showed up because dude may have been black or something? Update: A group of 50-60 "protesters" used bolt cutters and forced the doors to the Columbus Police Headquarters overnight, spraying mace at Officers in the process.  Rioters Break in to Columbus Police Headquarters Update: Officer camera video is out:  Body camera shows struggle for gun before shooting at St. Ann's Hospital According to a timeline from CPD, officers and security ordered Jackson to drop the gun and put his hands up at least 85 times. Officers deployed an additional taser before another shot was fired, followed by a series of gunshots, which can be heard in the video. Officers are then heard calling for medics to assist Jackson. An initial investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation confirmed that Jackson was armed with a gun and fired shots. |
