I'd be about that in all honesty. I'm off Thursday and plan on driving to KY to have dinner in a hotel with my family to turn around and drive back.

I made a turkey one year in the oven. It was pretty solid. I hear deep fried turkey is pretty good too.

Deep frying is the correct answer.

Going to the MiL’s for the official day, but I’ll be roasting a duck for our home celebration.

What’s the ideal weight for a deep fried turkey?

From the freezer to the fryer, just like the good lord AJ intended.

Also, in on 1.

You have to fill the cavity with water too to ensure the inside stays moist.

Yeppers.

Have a couple layers that have aged out of egg production. Time for the eating!

Depends on the size of the fryer.  Most I've seen are good with a max of 16-18lb.  Just remember, and extra few minutes in the oven is no big deal, but an extra few minutes in the fryer can go from perfect to overdone.

I usually set my frying station up in the bathtub so any spillage just goes down the drain.

I have a pretty large fry pot and did a 20 lb turkey several years ago and it was too done on the outside. Lessons learned.

I think it was 3.5min per pound, whatever was written on the pot.  Don't ever go over that, can go under it a little, too.

I don't thaw my turkey before frying.  but I also have a pot that can hold 10 gallons of peanut oil, and an engine hoist that I use to lower the bird slowly
