Are you guys using any mobile apps for off roading? Looking for some north Georgia maps.

I use the Gaia gps app on my phone.
Works pretty good and no cell service needed. Not perfect but I've had pretty good luck with it riding my motorcycle in the north GA and east TN national forests. |

Try OnX off-road

Thanks, the gaia one and onx seem to be popular

Gaia seems to have better reviews and has less spying than onX.

I'm not sure for that specific area but a couple I use are Lifetime Trail Maps and BobT maps.

I have 3 OnX, Gaia GPS, and Avenza Gps. Gaia shows the most with the public tracks layer on. Avenza is free and easy to read. OnX shows limited information.

What platform are people using for maps - phone or tablet?

I use Gaia and OnX. Gaia is insanely detailed and you can get pretty involved with it or simply let it run. OnX is really nice as a broad overview mapping app.
If I'm running a mix of highway and trails/fire roads, I'll have Google maps on the JK HUD and Gaia running on a mounted iPad mini just to the right of it. Sometimes I'll have OnX running on my phone as well. Just to check and double check different ways of looking at things. Gaia also displays in CarPlay but there are some mapping limitations so keep that in mind. All of them will DL maps to run when you don't have service. |

I have RAM's X mounts for my phones, but this has the pencil mount built in so I've been using it. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/60012/1A42862C-0542-4CE0-8804-22BE0BA7E8E6-2771298.jpg View Quote Did you drill holes for your Bulletpoint dash mount? View Quote If I remember correctly I had to drill 2 holes in the bottom of the tray. The mount is two piece and the bottom plate bolts through two holes in the bottom and some 3M adhesive. The top plate scews to the bottom plate with 4 screws. I have really enjoyed mine. I'm not using it to its full potential right now. I have had a phone, a GoPro, ipad Mini, Garmin GLO2, MidLand MXT575, and WeBoost interior antenna all mounted there at various times (not all together). My GoPros and the GLO2 are now in some modded grab handle mounts up in the A Pillar corners, my phones go in the dead space between the A Pillar and dash, the iPad mini stays, the MidLand is on a RAM mount below the iPad (in picture) and the WeBoost antenna is still roaming the interior looking for its final home. That BP mount makes moving stuff in and out easy if you use RAM mounts. I didn't go with their smaller ball mounts since I was already invested in RAM mounts but the base mounting is the same pattern. ETA: I rock crawl, etc, so I really don't like anything in my windshield viewing space. That said, some things do protrude above the dash line. I keep that to a minimum by using my hood as a reference. As long as nothing is blocking my view of the top edge of my hood, I have full visibility of what's in front and around me since I can't see through my hood anyways. I hope that makes sense. |

Nice. What do you use the iPad for and how do you connect it the internet if you do?

View Quote Out of the vehicle, I have the kindle app that I keep a lot of books loaded on. If I'm with the nieces, then I'll load some movies to it too. In vehicle the iPad runs Gaia primarily. Sometimes OnX. iPad's that have a cellular chip in them have the GPS capability without a cellular subscription. But this iPad I decided to go ahead and add it to my account so it has it's own cellular data plan. For the big stuff (offline maps), I will DL them via wifi at home before I head out. I'd love to be able to one day fit a StarLink setup somewhere. I may do an engine swap from this 3.6 V6 to a 2 stroke chainsaw engine. Yeah it's a loss in power, but I'm so dang packed full carrying crap I think that underhood storage is the only place left for me to go. ![]() |

View Quote DRobs, I'll be in the shop again all day tomorrow if you want some more pictures of the BP mount. I worked on a PSC Adventure Kit install today and didn't finish up. FYI, for all you mere mortals out there, the PSC gearbox is a two man job. Sure, there's some superheroes that can angle it through there and hold it with their big toe while you find a light, then line the bolts up, then get it flush while you start the bolt. Not me. I'm human. I called in some help and still decided to use the shop crane. Being too old and drinking too much beer sure sucks these days. |

MN DNR has geoPDF maps of all the trails for free using Avenza, so I use that. They are fairly accurate, enough to where you won't get lost. Not as if the trails are marked properly themselves anyway...
I currently just use my cell phone, pulling it up to look when I need to, but I'm going to get a 7" tablet and mount it to the dash of my Pioneer so it is always on for this year. ETA: Important to have off-line GPS of course. |

View Quote All good I just need to go watch a video on taking apart the center dash / duck pond in the Jeep. I use Gaia on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. I drilled 2 holes in my dash to use this ram mount. Problem is the screws are pulling out and I have that bullet point mount that will be more stable. I'll reuse the Ram mount in the Bulletpoint base. ![]() |

I think it's a 7mm or 8mm and about 6 screws, pop the center window controls out, 1 screw there. Everything from the left of the dash cluster to the right of the radio is one piece in the Gen2 and Gen3 JK's. |

I may have had something wonky though. |
