What ammo is good for the breaking in period? Most of the 124 grain I see is not +p or is hollow point.
Anyone have a good recipe for making my own. I have tightgroup and wst powder on hand.

I've been using Blazer brass 124 without issue, but I don't have as many rounds through it yet as others.

I picked up some of this just because I saw it.

I also have some 115gr stuff loaded up with 4.5gr of titegroup seated at like 1.12" with a FMJ and it does well.
the +P factory ammo is pretty toasty and it really slings the brass out when I shoot it - im talking 20-25 feet.

my handloads function fine in it but the brass only pops out about 8-10 feet since its no where near +P

as long as you WILL shoot at least 100 rounds of a P+ 9mm rounds, you'll be fine.

Look I overlooked this, thought it was just the usual recommendation without consequences, it wasn't and my AP5 didn't shit well until I went through the p+ thing.

Once done and since then, not a single hiccup, even suppressed

I bought a full size yesterday because of this thread. I have a few small 9mm options already so I went a bit bigger.

Now I need a brace, mags, etc. Not sure what brace I want to go with yet.

Sort of want. Definitely want an MKE G3. Since those are probably a year out, I'll probably have to settle for a PTR.

Meanwhile, I'm over here with the MKE and the spray paint.

Took it out again today to continue with the break-in, and to see if it is reliable with hollow points.

30 rounds of Bosnian BrassMaxx 115gr fmj
30 rounds of Winchester white box 147gr jhp

No malfunctions.  The latter was unsurprisingly quite a bit peppier than the former.

If memory serves, am now at 220 total rounds downrange, with only one malfunction at round #28.  That one could probably have been avoided if not for the fact that I took it direct from the gunstore counter to the range without cleaning or inspection.

All of these were shot using four MKE magazines, fwiw.  They seem high quality, and I don't have the mag wobble that others report.  Or perhaps I just don't perceive it as troublesome...

Happy thus far!

FYI

20 round ETS mags work fine.

Just did a full mag dump with a single pull on the trigger....zero issues.

They are tight and you must pull them back to lock...but they run.

Not bad for $10.

I swear all the optics mounts and rails have dried up from this thread.

was going to buy the MI rail for it and they have been sold out for months now.

MI optics mounts are sold out for months as well.

I have one of the super skinny low pro mounts right now but I need a little more space up top, im going to mount a crimson trace rail master in IR on the same rail as my optic just in front of the optic.
I also need a little space behind the optic as well to mount my brass catcher but it only needs one slot.
I settled for a magpul handguard to mount a surefire vampire on since everything else is OOS

Only optic mount I can find (in stock) is that big long mandangalo MI one that puts mlock slots over the cocking tube but im not a fan of that.

Thus far we've tried 115gr WWB, 124 gr WWB, 147 gr WWB, 115 grain winchester forged steel (or whatever it's called), and 158 grain Privi.

MKE and HK mags work with everything.  Tried a Zenith mag and it doesn't work.

My MKE AP5 has a silicone / plastic buffer inside the receiver pistol stub / end-cap, presumably to dampen the impact of the bolt traveling to the rear of the receiver.  It looks like the receiver on the right in this picture:

All the MP5 buffers I'm seeing for sale online say they are for the collapsing stock variants:

After modifying the G3 rear stock sheet metal to fit on the MP5 receiver, do you need to install a buffer if you're utilizing a fixed stock?

I think the buffer is not exactly required, more of a safety feature to prevent the bolt from impacting the rear.  I also suspect that anything that would act as a buffer would work.  Even cutting that shape out of some silicon would likely do the same job.

@tReznr

Here’s how the buffer situation has been explained to me when it comes to MP5’s.  Pistol caps and collapsing stocks have a little rubber/plastic buffer inside of them because the inside of the cap sits close enough up in the receiver that the bolt will bottom out on the buffer before the recoil spring bottoms out.  On the solid stocks, that back portion sits far enough back that the bolt will bottom out on the recoil spring fully compressed before it would impact the inside of the cap.  Therefore a buffer would be useless.  You would have to take a look and compare an A2 stock to the modified G3 stock but I would imagine you can go bufferless.

It doesnt say +p on the box.

Just got back from the range with my new -P, and it didnt run for shit. im kinda pissed. Going to order a new extractor spring or 10 and see if that helps. First two mags ran flawlessly, and after that it went downhill with double feeds and double feeds with an empty in there.

... keep in mind that UNTIL I EXPRESSLY shot +p ammo through my standard size MKE AP5, it malfunctioned like a POS.

Not two rounds out of it without a malfunction - particularly failed to extract - some spent cartridges even feel into the trigger pack... a desperate POS.

Then? Bought the +p (124 grains I think) and shot I think 200 of those.

Not a SINGLE malfunction since - and I've been using standard, CHEAP and even steel cased 115 grains ever since

Please keep this in mind.
