WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
FIRESTONE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY
SEPTEMBER 9-11

95 LAPS | 212.61 MILES
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (previously known as Laguna Seca Raceway) is a paved road racing track used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, originally constructed in 1957 near both Salinas and Monterey, California, USA.

The current racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) in length with a 300 foot (91 m) elevation change.

It has eleven turns, including the famous "Corkscrew" at Turns 8 and 8A. A variety of racing, exhibition and entertainment events are held at the raceway,

ranging from superkarts to American Le Mans racing to music festivals. The name Laguna Seca is Spanish for "dry lake". The area where the track is was originally a lake.

The course was originally built around the lake, which has since dried up entirely. An artificial pond has since been added.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES - Race   NBC Broadcast

100 LAPS | 180 MILES
The 1.8-mile, 14-turn (5 lefts, 9 rights) circuit incorporates streets of downtown St. Petersburg and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport.

After the long frontstretch, there's a tight right-hander into Turn 1 and then a quick left-hand turn. Plenty of drivers have gotten into trouble in these two turns over the years.

There are two other long straights with heavy braking zones that afford opportunities to overtake.

I'm thinking very seriously about making the race at TMS in Texas on March 20th. It's Jimmie Johnson's first oval race. TMS in those cars is not the place I would have chosen for my first oval race. I guess his logic is some seat time before Indy the next month.
As we have seen from NASCAR races here over the years the weather at the end of March, early April can be extremely unpredictable so I hope they get it in.

Went to Texas a few years ago.  Nice facility, but the traffic sucked!   Not the race traffic, the whole Dallas/Ft Worth area.

Maybe doing his first oval at TMS ( a track he is very familiar with) wasn't such a bad move after all. Having been to several open-wheel races there I thought that was folly. They are insanely fast there and run so close together it's unreal.  Good luck to him at Indy.

85 LAPS | 167.28 MILES
The 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit encircles the Long Beach Convention Center -- which houses a Family Fun Zone and numerous displays during the race weekend -- and runs down scenic Shoreline Drive.

It offers numerous overtaking opportunities, including Turn 1, getting the hairpin turn just before the frontstretch right is critical.
