Guessing you're leaning towards an RG?

To my eye the RGs and GEMs are the only guitars that really look good in wild patterns and colors. Nili Brosh's CS Ibanez color scheme really wouldn't work with any other brand i can think of...

Agree completely, the Schecter swirls should be against the Geneva Convention

I keep saying that about the extra Edge II Zero and V7 & V8 pickups sitting in my parts bin.

And I thought my Dumpster find build had bright pots. I almost did buy matching pu covers

What are the plans for neck and body; scavenge an Ibanez or eBay clone or...?

I have an old Hosono Guitarworks body I've been holding onto for 30 years. The plan was a Ibanez 540P-ish clone. It's got some long, pointy horns; been debating whether or not to trim it up and go for more of a RG-ish build.

Was supposed to be an RG550 from Sweetwater, but they got pushed back to the end of July. There's a reasonably priced RG550MXX on Reverb that's pretty tempting, though.

The RG550 is the only 80's shredder that I liked. Saw Joe Satriani in 1988 and he actually pulled out a caution orange RG550 for a couple songs even though he was already endorsing the JS series.  I guess that burned it into my brain. Something "not rock enough" about the Radius/JS body IMHO.

Yep, the small radius edges and sharp points of an RG are kind of it's distinction in the guitar world. Not to mention how awesomely comfortable they are to play while looking like something that should cut you.

Did you steal this out of Steve Vai's garage, or Dweezil Zappa's?

Do not concur.  The Fender HM Strats look good any way you do them.

When I was 17, my parents bought me a Universe as a combo Xmas/Bday present.  I said I wanted the black one with green pups because it was somewhat less expensive.

Just damn.

Not even some of the Jackson's? I bought my neon green with pink pickups Dinky DK2XR LE on a Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the day a few weeks ago, and I'm very happy with it. I bought a neon yellow guitar strap for it to embrace the loud 80's hair metal vibe.
