In the last 3-4 months I’ve read or listened to every Vince Flynn, Brad Thor and Jack Carr book.  I am reading The Devil’s Hand, the new Jack Carr book now, but I don’t know where to go after that.  I’m still on a spy/military/whatever thriller kick and have already read everything from Ludlum and Clancy.

Anyone have any recommendations?

For anyone who is interested:

I haven’t covered enough pages to say how good the new Jack Carr novel is.  I like the previous three, but my big complaint for Carr (same for a lot of thriller writers) is that the main character, James Reece, doesn’t have to struggle enough.  There is always a friend that has a lot of money, or resources, or pull with someone in power.  Reece has too much help.  Hopefully that is not the case in this book.  I think Vince Flynn was much better about that.  It is probably a lot tougher to write when the characters have to face struggle.

I highly recommend Vengeance by George Jonas, which the movie Munich was based on. Supremely entertaining!

I liked Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. I thought it read a little like the WWII sections of Cryptonomicon.

How did you like From Russia With Blood?

I'm hesitant to read anything about Russia that's been published in the last ten years or so. It's been especially worse since that whole "muh collusion" thing. Every wine-sipping socialist was vying for a Pulitzer by going after the low hanging fruit (Putin/Russia).

Damn good one right there. Last I heard it was being made into a movie with Guy Ritchie at the helm.

This one was very good. SF guy who did a lot of time with the CIA and was still active and went into Afghanistan at age 72.

His stories about driving around Sudan disguised as an African are pretty funny and crazy.

Hunting the Jackal: A Special Forces and CIA Ground Soldier's Fifty-Year Career Hunting America's Enemies

I don't know if there is a book, but I'm listening to an interview with John McPhee (Sheriff of Baghdad, 15 years in Delta) and he's talking about going out on his own in Afghanistan and driving a cab in Baghdad disguised as a local doing crazy shit by himself. Reminded me of this book.
