Federal prosecutors are looking into whether an admitted felon helped arrange to give gold bars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez or his wife in exchange for help, sources familiar with the matter tell News 4.
Investigators want to know if Menendez, a Democrat, offered to contact the Justice Department to try to help that man who was accused of banking crimes. Those questions are now before a federal grand jury in Manhattan that is considering whether to hand up corruption charges against the senior senator from New Jersey. Sources say witnesses are now testifying before that federal grand jury. Part of the investigation centers on the senator's ties to Fred Daibes, a New Jersey developer and one-time bank chairman. Officials with the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation want to know if Daibes or his associates gave gold bars to the senator's wife, Nadine Arslanian -- gold bars worth as much as $400,000. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigations/did-sen-bob-menendez-and-wife-improperly-take-gold-bars-from-corrupt-bank-exec/4697207/ |

Without a doubt they did. Dude should be in prison for life for this...
...along with all of his other crimes |

If he had an R by his name Republican would have been the first word in the article.

Damn! Not even Senator Menendez has faith in the dollar anymore.

It's just the usual business of politics. Nothing to see here.

This guy sucks at corruption, he's been caught a half dozen times. He's so blatant about it that this is the second or third time the uniparty had to acknowledge it officially. Dude needs to start a foundation to skim from or ghostwrite a book that gets bought in bulk and shredded like the smart politicians do.

So that is how the swamp keeps these things from having a paper trail. I wonder how many more accept tribute via gold or bitcoin.

Nothing will happen as usual. Republicans will kick and scream for a week and go back to pretending they care about immigration.

Trump was in real estate development in New York and New Jersey for decades but nobody has ever accused him of giving bribes to get projects completed. He's either the most ethical real estate developer in NY/NJ or outing his bribes would implicate the recipients, none of whom would have R's after their name.

Surprised they'd do much to jeopardize the makeup of the Senate, though the NJ governor would just appoint another leftist. They'd lose their seniority at least.

The indictment claims the couple had an improper relationship with three New Jersey businessmen: Wael Hana, Jose Uribe and Fred Daibes, who allegedly paid the couple in exchange for Menendez to use his influence in Washington D.C. to their benefit.
The probe also looked at other bribes allegedly paid to the couple. A June 2022 raid on their New Jersey home found 'over $480,000 in cash - much of it stuffed into envelopes and hidden in clothing, closets, and a safe,' the indictment notes, addding Nadine had over $70,000 in a safe deposit box. It also found two one-kilogram gold bars and eleven one-ounce gold bars. The indictment accuses Menendez and his wife of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for using the senator's influence to protect and enrich the businessmen. 'Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value,' the indictment said. The indictment alleges that Menendez tried to disrupt a federal criminal prosecution of Daibes in exchange for the money and other items of value. Daibes is an old friend of Menendez, has fundraised for his Senate campaign, and allegedly has mob ties. The indictment charges Menendez 'promised to and did use his influence and power' to pressure President Joe Biden to nominate a U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey who Menendez 'believed could be influenced by Menendez with respect to the federal criminal prosecution of Fred Daibes.' Biden later nominated Phillip Sellinger as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, the top federal prosecutor in the state. New Jersey authorities have tracked high-ranking mobsters meeting with Daibes repeatedly over the last decade, the Daily Beast reported. Daibes provided the couple with gold bars and envelopes of cash, the indictment states. 'Multiple gold bars provided by Daibes were found during the court-authorized June 2022 search; of the couple's home, the indictment states. It also says the senator performed a web search for 'how much is one kilo of gold worth' and that the envelopes of cash had the fingerprints of Daibes and his driver. The indictment also charges the senator with providing 'sensitive U.S. Government information and took other steps that secretly aided the Government of Egypt.' ![]() Menendez and Nadine with Hana ![]() Fred Daibes, Chairman and CEO of Daibes Enterprises, in his Edgewater office ![]() Businessman Wael Hana (center) is one of the people who allegedly bribed Menendez Link to indictment |
