I had recently finished a block of work and found myself ready to have a few drinks and hang with the dogs after their last walk in an empty house.

The wife and youngest were out of town and the older kids are off at college or on their own.

Amazing Prime had 24 Hours To Live pop up.

It stared Ethan Hawke.  I have seen solid work from him.  Plus he is a similar age, and I kind  of have a similar not butt ugly / not pretty blu Ethan Hawke/Jeffery Dean Morgan/Josh Brolin look, and said former recon marine with 24 hours left to live revenge deal.

While the former Ranger / Green Beret / SEAL / Force Recon Marine thing has been done since at least when I was a kid in the early 70s and saw Billy Jack on TV, when all is said and done how exciting can the movie get with no bad ass backstory.

He of course in an equally old “one last mission” trope gets sucked in.  Sure, in real life there are guys that get pulled more often than others because they speak a certain language so always go there, have a shit load of time in a region and get picked, and also have a ton of cold weather / ski / mountain background and also get yanked for those, or tend to always know someone or have a guy - this is just disproportionately getting used, nobody is that “one guy” or the “best” etc. and it gets old.  

Regardless, I digress, it did not look all that woke and had four and a half stars.

I thought the 24 hours was going to be due to some tamper proof bomb belt, time release poison, or or cheesy surgically implanted bomb.

Nope, there is a hint of science fiction.


There is decent gun porn, not totally shitty gun handling, and fantastic 4X4 porn,
Overseas only model 70 series Land Cruisers, post 2014 FJ Cruisers, an XJ, even an old series III LR truck.

And...
Ans watch porn on his nemesis’s wrist that seems cool I have yet to identify.

Plus a naked chick in a shower.

So,
If you like Sci fi,
Are a non woke DGAF based sicker back cool with a scruffy rugged looking over the hill silverback one last mission Former Action Guy that likes car, gun, and watch porn-
And chicks that can shoot,
And a tried but true rich, evil, business trope to get revenge on,

And a seen a mile away plot twist-

And had missed this movie,
It’s worth a watch.

It’s basically an 80s movie by Canon Group with a better budget and production values.  Sure , there is a little CG now, but real squibs and stunts when it counts.

Wut???

Trying to create that stream of consciousness sense you get when your randomly pick a movie, expecting it to be run of the mill former action guy seeking revenge,
But get pleasantly surprised
It has a whiff of Sci Fi,
Plus a lot of things you like.


And it’s not a shit show that destroys the original source like Without Remorse.

Ok, I didn’t watch the trailer, thus the surprise.

In the 80's the 24 hours gimmick would've been tied to an injected virus, such as in the case of Snake Plissken in Escape from NY.

Nope, just pleasantly surprised a random movie combined a lot of things I like.

Not a virus, it was a tiny explosive, like in Suicide Squad.
