Hello all, Thanks for stopping in.
I'd like some input on the FZ1. I want another bike. Opinions please... Yes I have ridden before |
|
I've never owned one but I can tell you from other people's experiences that they are excellent machines.
Edit: I did own an FZ6 and loved it. Similar, but not quite the same. |

I hear a lot people miss their FZ1s after selling them. That’s all I got, sorry.
Just get one. |

I’ve talked to a few people that have put goldwing type miles on them. They seem to be rock solid.

|
I have a FZ-07 and love it. Havent heard anything bad about the FZ1. Just make sure you know how to handle a liter bike.

I'd get an fz/mt-09 or an MT-10 before one of the older fz-1s.

I’m a long time R1 guy but I got to ride a friends FZ1 and it was a blast. Big improvement in comfort over the R1 but still has a lot of grunt.

I used to own an '03 FZ1, loved it. Most comfortable machine I've ever owned and liter bike power.
Buy one. |

Yeah, it was in a 4130 perimeter frame with a TZ250 88-90 tank, set up with GSXR suspension and marchesini wheels. You didn't get this one from the local shop. View Quote kawasaki 500 h1r circuit du luc Attached File |

No, not the diesel.

Buddy of mine has one. He's put something north of 100,000 miles on it without much more than routine maintenance. Rode with him a bunch of times and it is plenty fast. Decent ergonomics so you aren't beat at the end of a long day. Good bike.

I liked mine well enough
main complaint was ya really had to get it spinning to get to its powerband and then the limiter was at about 12K IIRC other than that it was a great bike , but would probably buy a FZ09 if I get another bike Attached File |

I have never owned one but have ridden the fz6 and the fz1. Both are fantastic bikes. I have ridden both on the street and track at brainerd international raceway when I lived in Minnesota. They are very comfortable and are loads of fun. I never had enough interest to purchase one because supermoto is life haha. If you know somebody who owns one, take it for a spin and see if it is for you.

I have a 2011 FZ8 which is similar to the fz1. I love it, use it as my DD. Very comfy, and good usable power
I'd say go for it |

I seriously considered getting an FZ1, but ended up with an FZ-09 instead.
From what I recall, of the fuel-injected models, the 2006 (the first FI model) had frame cracking issues. The later years had throttle response issues, but this can be fixed (or at least mitigated) with an ECU tune. Ivan of Ivan's Performance Products was the preferred tuner on the FZ-1 forum that I was frequenting at the time. I had him retune the ECU on my FZ-09, and it's much improved. A lot of people actually preferred the older, carbureted FZ1s. Having owned both types of bikes, I'm sticking with fuel-injected from now on, but YMMV. |

I currently own a 2010 FZ1 and have put some longer distance rides on it as well as a lot of city riding. To give you some reference points, I had a 96 fzr 600 as my first bike and had both the fz1 and fzr at the same time.
For one, go with a fuel injected bike if you have the choice. Although i never had problems on my 96 yamaha being a carb, I like being able to start it up instead of having to choke the bike, let it get warm, then slowly cut the choke off. Its much nicer to start and go. As far as the FZ1 is concerned. It can feel big if your used to smaller sports bikes and you may notice the weight difference. Also be aware the bars are not clip ons, rather just a straight bar across. The stock seat on long rides will hurt your butt, its tolerable but youll be standing from time to time. Wind protection is just okay for me being 6'2. Seating position is fantastic, but make sure to get a wrist savers for long trips to help your arms. You get a center stand! I cant tell you how useful it has been. I hardly ever use my wheel lifts anymore to do work on the bike. Youll also find the chain slack adjustment very thought out and user friendly. Makes changing a tire super easy because you dont have to mess with your adjusters if you dont need to. Ive taken it on the dragon two years in a row among other places and its a very fun bike to use on technical roads but youll notice the weight in the technical bits. On longer sweeping 60mph + turns is where i enjoy this bike the most. Its very predictable and stable in the lean more so than my fzr was. But keep in mind tire selection could alter that feel. In short it has made a great daily bike as well as a great road trip bike. It actually helped my group out the last time we went to the mountains because our buddies bike broke the oil pan and I had to ride him two up with all of our luggage on the back 2 hours to chattanooga to get a rental truck. If you plan to ride 2 up its a great choice as well. Handles the weight like you would hope. however in full disclosure... Im probably going to sell it to get a dual sport crf250 honda. But if i can somehow keep it I will because as far as non supersports go, its been my favorite to use compared to many of my friends supersports and naked style sport bikes ive ridden. http://oi65.tinypic.com/2mcd8oh.jpg What specifically led you to the fz1? |

Get a bike that's less than 5 years old with fuel injection. The Bandit is a better all round bike than a FZ1. Get one of the current Yamahas MTs and don't discount the MT-07.

I like the FZ1. Very soft spot in my heart for the dark red ones. I currently have an '07 FZ6 in red.
Great bikes. |

Friend has a 2009 (I think).
It's fast as shit, pretty comfortable, and was a good deal. Looks great as a half naked bike. That being said, we've both noticed it has a weird bit of throttle lag when shifting, and the gearing is super tall, as if it were a hunched over liter bike. It also gets shit for gas mileage. He's got a 5th gen vfr, and if given the opportunity, we both prefer to ride the Honda. The fz1 is faster and more modern in every way, but the vfr is more fun. ETA: once he started really riding 2 up for hours at a time, he said a concourse 14 was a surprisingly fun and fast bike. It certainly does not feel like a 1.4 liter tank. I also second the poster stating that the seat on the fz1 is uncomfortable on longer rides. It's pretty crappy, but many stock seats are. |

Ive heard that the FI models have generator issues. View Quote Even in 2011 it was very hard to find a stator and rotor in stock. Too bad, because I loved that bike and the rest of the bike is rock solid. I'd look at FZ-09 or FZ-10. FZ-10 is functionally brilliant, but to me looks like Godzilla squeezed his own poop. I'm sure enough time with a angle grinder and spray bomb would help. You can get a steal on a CB1000R at honda shops now, probably also a good bike. |

I used to have a 2012 FZ1. I miss that bike mightily but had to sell due to injuries and physical issues.

I currently own two R1's (2003 and 2014). I am 50 y/o, and have been riding my whole life. I may sell both this year to buy an FZ-10 for comfort.
Go big, or stay home. My "14" in matte grey... Attached File |
