QUESTION: Can a dimmer be used to control a ceiling fan?

Installed a new Minkka-Aire fan in the master bedroom.  Installed their branded fan controller.

The thing at LOW speed parts my hair while I'm trying to sleep!

Most of the house is Z-Wave.   Honeywell sells a dimmer and a fan controller.  Dimmer can be adjusted by percentages.  Fan controller supposedly has 3 speeds. (Yeah, I know.  There's no difference between a 3 speed and a 10 speed if the RPM setting is the same at each's high/low setting.)

I installed my Minkka a few hours ago, low med and take off, all three speeds work fine.  Remote control only.

Most light dimmers don't work well with AC motors.

However, there are fan motor speed controls that install just like a light dimmer - They work OK, but can make the motor buzz, particularly at low speeds.

It may have a dc motor with a speed control.
