There are so many write offs for small scale self employed folks. - Materials - Home office - Equipment - Training classes - Vehicle mileage - Child care Etc. If your gross is under a few K for a side hustle it's pretty trivial to arrange things such that the net profit is a few hundred bucks most years, or perhaps even negative occasionally (but not so often as to trigger the hobby vs business rules). |
